Karna VS Arjuna Final War

The Seventeenth day of the war came. Duryodhana went to Salya and with folded hands made his request. He said, `Karna is going to kill Arjuna today but only flaw in his plan is, there is no charioteer in the world like Krishna. You are the only one who can equal or even excel the prowess of Krishna. Karna is sure to kill Arjuna, if only you could be kind enough to be his charioteer.` Initially Salya was furious. He said, `How dare you suggest that I a Kshatriya do the work of a Sutaputra for a sutaputra? I am great king. I wear a crown. I have been given the sacred coronation bath. I am a Maharathi. You are asking me to become a servant of a low-born? Despite your over confidence in him, he is no match to me. I can easily defeat him. I can fight Indra and defeat him. Do not insult me. I shall go back to my kingdom.`

Duryodhana again spoke with tears in his eyes. `My lord, who can dare to insult you? Who does not know your superiority? My request is only that since no one can match Krishna`s skill in charioteering except your honoured self. Most humbly we request you to guide the course of Karna`s chariot. So that he may kill Arjuna. It is like lord Brahma taking the reins of the chariot of Shiva when he went to kill Triparas.` Now, Salya was pleased with the humulity of Duryodhana. He said, `I am pleased to hear you say in the midst of all the army, That I am superior to Krishna. I will accept to become the charioteer of Karna.` Duryodhana fell at his feet to express his gratitude.

Karna too, was humilated to know that Salya had agreed to become his charioteer. He expressed his gratitude to Salya. He was pleased with Karnas. Salya went and prepared a chariot for Karna and brought it before him. Karna did pradakshina of his chariot and then saluted his father the sun. He made Salya enter the chariot first and they he followed him. Duryodhana gave him a fond farewell. Karna said that it is Arjuna or me, who would die in the battle. Salya had made a promise to Yudhisthira to dampen the enthusiasm of Karna to break his morals. He had been praising the Pandavas all they way and belittling Karna. Karna only said. `My lord, I do not wish to displease you by contradicting what you say.`

Karna had arranged his army beautifully today. Krishna said, `Arjuna today you must face Karna and kill him. Bhima has to kill Duryodhana.` The fight started in all its fury. Karna was decided for a fight to death. He wanted to put up the best possible show of his skills and prowess. Arjuna advanced alone. He saw that his sons Sushama, Satyasena and Vrishasena protected the chariot of Karna. The Pandavas who were ranged against Karna were, Satyaki, Dhristadhymna, Bhima, Shikhandi, sons of Draupadi, Nakula and Sahdeva. But they could not check the progress of Karna. Bhima killed Satyasena. The other two sons of Karna were wounded. The army of the Pandavas was no match to Karna today. It just blew away like clouds in a gale.

Yudhisthira came to face him. A great fight took place. Karna was hurt in the beginning but he fought back routing Satyaki and others who came to help Yudhisthira. He cut the bow of Yudhisthira to pieces. He also smashed the chariot of Yudhisthira. Then with an arrow he broke his armour too. Now Yudhisthira was standing there helpless at his mercy. Yudhisthira threw a few javeline at him but they all were broken into pieces. Then Karna touched him with his bow and said, You are one of the noblest of men born a Kshatriya but more a Brahmin by heart. Do not challenge your superiors. As you rightly said that I a sutaputra should not vie with the Kshatriya, my lord you, too have failed to act as a Kshatriya. Go to Arjuna you can never defeat me in a single combat. He then turned to the other side of the field.

Bhima was very angry at the insult offered to Yudhisthira. He advanced menacingly towards, Karna, Salya warned Karna about him. Bhima rushed at Karna and was able to hurt him so badly that he fainted. He came around soon and began fighting again. Arjuna defeated Ashvatthama in a duel. Yudhisthira again came to face Karna but was taken to his tent badly hurt. Arjuna and Krishna went to his tent to know about his welfare. Thereafter, Arjuna and Krishna re-entered the field and their horses were refreshed.

Arjuna asked Krishna to take him to Karna.Krishna took him to Karna. Salya saw the chariot of Arjuna coming towards Karna. By now Salya was very deeply impressed by the bravery, heroism and generosity of Karna. He had already stopped praising the Pandavas and denouncing Karna. He could see that there was no one in the battlefield that could match the sterling qualities of Karna. He was very much overwhelmed by Karna`s devotion to his duty and to his king.

He said Karna now the time has come to fulfill your promise to kill Arjuna. He is killing our army in hundreds and thousands, kill him. Then the Pandavas will lose the war. He further said, I know the prowess of Bhishma and Drona and I am no mean warrior myself. But no one can stand up to you. Only you can kill Arjuna. Karna`s eyes were filled with tears of gratitude, hearing the words of Salya. He said, my lord, you have made me the happiest person in the world. I feel very honoured and I shall try my best to live upto your expectations. You are my lord, master and friend with your blessings. I hope to kill Arjuna, kindly take me to meet him half way.

The chariot of Karna was stopped by Bhima and Satyaki. Satyaki killed Sushama, the son of Karna. Karna killed the son of Dhistadhyumna. Now Shikhandi, Janmejaya, Yudhamanyu, Uttamaujas and Dhritadhymna, five great warriors were fighting Karna. He defeated all of them and they all fled away from him. Duryodhana came to help him with his brother Dussasan. Bhima and Dussasan met and a terrible duel was fought. Both hated each other that put extra sharpness in their fight. Bhima said, `Dussasan I am grateful to you, Today by coming to fight with me. You have given me an opportunity to repay a debt.

I remember, your evil hands touched the blessed hair of Draupadi. Ever since, I think of your misdeed,I always wanted to repay you.` Bhima fought a long drawn duel with Dussasan. Finally he was able to smash his chariot and break his bow. Now Dussasan was fallen on the ground. Bhima caught him by his throat. Then he threw him on the ground. He cut his hands and threw them on the ground. He had promised to Draupadi that the evil hands, which touched her, would fall on the ground. Bhima ripped the chest of Dussasan. The blood from his heart spurted. Bhima put his lips to it. This terrible deed was performed by Bhima to fulfill his oath. The brother of Duryodhana, Dussasan was dead.

Vrishasena, the son of Karna, advanced towards the Pandavas army. The sharp arrows of Arjuna killed him while Karna was looking. Now, Karna was eager to fight Arjuna. The two greatest warriors were facing each other.

Their duel began, they started with the ordinary arrows, then warned up to the use of divine astras. They used astras of Agni, Varuna, Indra in turn and neutralized the astras of the other. Now, Karna, sent a terrible astra, a special gift of his guru, Parashurama, called Bhargavastra. This astra was more powerful than all the astras used so far by them. The army of the Pandavas was much harassed by this astra. Bhima was furious he told Arjuna to put an end to Karna otherwise he would kill him with his mace. Krishna asked Arjuna to go all out, otherwise, it would not be easy to kill Karna.

Arjuna invoked Brahmastra, Great upheavals took place in all the directions. It cleared the cloud of arrows created by Karna Now Karna sent another deadly astra. The astra illuminated the entire field. It went like lightening. Everyone was watching with bated breath. Even Devas like Surya and Indra had been watching the duel between the two.

Krishna did an unusual thing. He pressed his chariot and it sank six inches into the ground. As a result the astra aimed at Arjuna`s neck could hit his crown only. The famed Kiriti fell down on the ground but Arjuna remained unharmed. Now there was no astra as powerful in Karna`s arsenal. But he continued his fighting. The Pandavas could breath easier after they saw that Arjuna escaped from the dreadful Magastra.

Now the fate has started its work against Karna. The earth became soft all of sudden and the wheels of Karna`s chariot went deep in to the ground. The protectors of his wheels had run away already. Karna was getting furious. Then Arjuna sent Aindrastra at him. Karna could invoke Brahmastra to counter it with great efforts of will. Now his memory was failing and he had lost the power to invoke astras by saying appropriate incantations.

Karna pleaded with Arjuna that he could give him time to retrieve the wheels of his chariots. That was the rule of the righteous war. Krishna laughed and said, `talk of righteousness does not behove you. You have been the part of evil Duryodhana`s all sinful schemes, you never protested against the insulting treatment given to Draupadi in their court, rather you were a party to aggravate it by your insulting remarks. You cannot forget the recent killing of Abhimanyu. Do you think that was righteous. You talk of righteousness, I cannot check my laughter.`

Krishna`s words hurt Karna deeply. He knew the words of Krishna were true. Yet he went to retrieve the wheels of his chariot from the ground. But Arjuna`s arrows rained incessantly. He came up again and resumed fighting. Arjuna sent Agni, Varuna and Vayu astras. Now Karna was finding it difficult to remember incantations to invoke appropriate astras to make these ineffective. Yet Karna could not be hurt seriously. Again he was trying to retrieve the wheels of his chariot from the ground. Krishna prompted Arjuna to make haste. Karna should be killed without any loss of time. Arjuna sent an arrow, which was like Vajr, the weapon of Indra. It cut the head of Karna

  1. And as far as my first post was concerned it was to show you that Arjuna was not the only one great but others too were in line but you as a traditional fan did your trademark of replying to insult … Lets talk about karna getting upperhand on arjuna and making him unconcious … If that does not make him great so that do mean any ordinary bowmen would have done that to partha… Brother …My point is what you dont got … I told you about karna cause you as fan of partha know him better than me … I was telling you to appreciate everyone in MB… You say Oyher people have lowered down the standard of this blog… Go thoroughly fron this blog… It was you who started this and people got inraged..I have never ever commented on any blog butvyou sir… After watching your comments you talk like you are the only one right here… My main moto was to tell you … instead of criticizing you should have appreciated Arjuna in any other arjuna blog….. Now do your trademark replies Broskii because I am not in a fight but you are and it seems like you will fail in every other battle of life ig you dont win here on this blog…. while I wad not in hatred for any character of MB but yes I am in hatred with your comments and arrogance…. Good Luck bro cuz you really need it ….anand yes dont forget to reply in your trademark fashion…..and(Forget it csuse you listen with intent of criticizing not with understanding)…Bye bro csuse next time I am not going to answer your reply cuz i have more important work to do than to make a lad(who is associated more with a chsracter and thus make him virtual) know about the importance of story than to have association with character.

  2. And Here you are sachin… Criticizing as you have done earlier brother … You may be good at defending arjuna but as such I am not good at defending Karna .. Brother cuz I am not fan of Karna but of Bharta … You only seem to answer those what you can rightly defend but you didnt answer for the fact that Karna and Arjuna are mentioned as the foremost Bowmen of the world and here is the nutshell of everything cause I can go on and on and I know you can too but the fact is you answered question relating to what you have done earlier that is defend Arjuna as conventional die-hard fan but guess what I dont need any testament from you for his greatness and you talk as if arjuna need any bonafide certification for his greatness. The fact is you didn’t answered about the theme of Mahabharta but answered what was not worthy of being answered….You call me hypocrite… Sorry Brother I am not well knowledged in MB but you as expertise in should not have commented the way you did … I hope you understood what I meant rather than doing your trademark and please never say that Lord krishna could not even defend himself(You mentioned it in other comment) or else dont call him Lord ….

  3. @ Abhay,

Well..well..well….. What do we have here…. Another philosophical Karna lover & self proclaimed MB expert…..

Your statement-“This post is for sachin who is self proclaimed expert in knowing MB.”

My ans- Well this statement is Valid for you, but not for me, because i have read the MB thoroughly……

Your statement-“While can you tell me the real message Mahabharta gives….Well I guess Hahahahaha…”

My ans- Wrong conclusion…. It is the “Karna lovers” & their funny claims which gives me “Hahahahaha…”…..😉

Your statement-“The way you talk is very bad and disparaging.”

My ans- Look who’s talking….. Look into the mirror Mr Karna lover before giving your philosophical Gyaan, because it’s Karna lovers wo have brought down the standard of this blog with their rubbish language on many occasions…. I only show the mirror to you all….

Your statement-“The main motive of your reading mahabharta should have been learning from the flaws of the chracter and improve abreast with the teachinng of Mahabharata.”

My ans- Ha..ha..ha… What a hippocrat…!! Instead of accepting the Flaws in the character of Karna, you are giving me this gyaan…!! Miyaan, jaake Aainaa dekho…..

Your statement-“In that Karna and Arjuna were regarded as the foremost bow men of the world and the deities of welkin were praising both”

My ans- Glorifying statements does not make a warrior great…. But it is his ACTUAL PERFORMANCE which make him great….. Going by glorifying descriptions, even Shalya has been glorified as BEST, so does it actually make him greatest….?? Childish thinking…..

And Going by ACTUAL PERFORMANCES, Karna was nowhere near Arjun’s status….

Your statement-“Secondly it is mentioned in That text that Lord Krishna sank his chariot in order to protect Arjuna from the devastating bow shot by karna”

My ans- This is a Supernatural event, hence invalid….. further, talking supernaturally, if Arjun was helped by Krishna, then Karna was helped by Ashwasen snake(with that Nagastra) in the final battle, but still the end result: Arjun killed Karna…..!!

Your statement-“Third ,at last Karna made Vibhatsu(Arjuna, Ironically mean who fight battle with fair means) him unconsious and abiding by the rule didn’t attacked him further”

My ans- Typical Karna lover’s arguement….. Read that battle once again Mr Abhay… It was Arjun who FIRST made Karna UNCONCIOUS & stopped attacking him…..

Further, it is an irrelvant point, because what matter in the end result….

Your statement-“however three curse acts on him and this is how great karna was sent to heaven by just an instrument Arjuna of Lord Krishna.”

My ans- Typical Supernatural Bullshit….. Hence invalid…. talk practically Mr Abhay…

Your statement-“Lord ordered him and vibhatsu by ignoring war rules killed Vrisha(Karna)..”

My ans- What rules ?? If u r matured enough then u would know that EVERYTHING IS FAIR IN A WAR….. And Arjun killed Karna in a fair one-on-one war…..

And stop giving cheap EXCUSES for Karna defeats Mr Abhay, because in previous 6-7 encounters between Arjun & Karna, there were no such EXCUSES of Karna’s curses/Krishna’ help etc, but still Arjun defeated Karna fair & square…. e.g. Arjun defeated Karna at Draupadi swaymwar war, Viraat war(4 times), 14th day war & finally killed him on 17th day…. And u r singing the song of EXCUSES of curses ?? Huh….. Karna even got thrashed by Bhima/Abhimanyu/Satyaki/Drupad/Gandharvas/Ghatotkach etc so The main motive of your reading mahabharta should have been learning from the flaws of the chracter & not giving cheap EXCUSES of their failures because of your blind love for Karna…..

Your statement-“You called karna an ordinary Bow man and it is just an humble advice .. better retract your statement cause there is no glory in disgracing other ..I think you got it brother otherwise you can criticize as you’ve been doing earlier.”

My ans- Ha..ha..ha… Another gyaan-vaani from Mr Abhay…… Karna himself proved his low caliber warrior status with his ACTUAL PERFORMANCES, so dont blame me for pointing out the FACTS from MB, blame your favourite Karna……

And a little piece of advice for you: You better start accepting the FACT of MB, rather then having blind love & giving funny gyaan-vaani to others……

And i have seen from many years, each time a new Karna lover comes in this blog, he gives his gyaan-vaani & when i replies to him, he disappears from this blog, never to reply back…..!! Typical Karna follwers.. Expert in running (like Karna)….. Ha..ha..ha… What its gonna be MR Abhay…..??

  4. This post is for sachin who is self proclaimed expert in knowing MB. While can you tell me the real message Mahabharta gives….
    Well I guess
    Hahahahaha…
U cant and the very reason is depicted in the post you’ve written for the Karna fans…The way you talk is very bad and disparaging. The main motive of your reading mahabharta should have been learning from the flaws of the chracter and improve abreast with the teachinng of Mahabharata. Look at you … You talk like if you knew Arjuna more than Arjuna himself….Why you guys get so much associatef with character than theme … This was not the moto of Mahabharta. But now I am presenting certain citation from so called Ved Vyasa MB(KMG)..

In that Karna and Arjuna were regarded as the foremost bow men of the world and the deities of welkin were praising both

Secondly it is mentioned in That text that Lord Krishna sank his chariot in order to protect Arjuna from the devastating bow shot by karna

Third ,at last Karna made Vibhatsu(Arjuna, Ironically mean who fight battle with fair means) him unconsious and abiding by the rule didn’t attacked him further and tried to rescue his chariot but however three curse acts on him and this is how great karna was sent to heaven by just an instrument Arjuna of Lord Krishna.Lord ordered him and vibhatsu by ignoring war rules killed Vrisha(Karna)..

By this I am not boasting about karna neither tryimg to disgrace Arjuna cause both were great and it was fall of karna which brought great delight in Pandava camp cause they know suta son was their last great obstruction from the side Kurus . You called karna an ordinary Bow man and it is just an humble advice .. better retract your statement cause there is no glory in disgracing other ..I think you got it brother otherwise you can criticize as you’ve been doing earlier.

    1. @ Rupak,

Mr Rupak, you mean to say that Karna was not a character from MB ??

And i know every fact of MB as well as about Karna….. And You are right, you dont need to prove me who was Karna because i already know that Karna was a low class Faticharr warrior of MB….. And since you cant refute the facts given by me, hence my claimes are proved…. So who cares what you KArna lovers think of Karna… because the bottomline remains that Karna was a low class Faticharr warrior of MB…

U havent read the original Vyas MB & you call yourself Intelligent ??? Huh… If u have read it then u would have known that Arjun defeated Karna at Draupadi Swayamwar war….. And overall Arjun vs Karna = 7:0 in favor of Arjun…. And u still think Karna greater than Arjun…?? What a moron u are…..!!

Your statement-“Karna wasn’t allowed to participate in draupadi swayamvaram,as he lifted the bow and was aiming he was stopped and was insulted not because of any deeds done by him but because of his birth.”

My ans- So what ?? Does it prove Karna as Greatest ??? Kuch bhi… And who knows if Karna had not been stopped by Draupadi, then would he be able to shoot the mark or NOT ??

Further, there is some Contradiction mentioned in Original Vyas MB, which at one place says that Karna also FAILED to lift the bow…..

So Mr Karna, dont you have any other ACHIEVEMENT to show for your Karna, instead of this INSIGNIFICANT & MEANINGLESS event of Draupadi Swayamwar…??

Your statement-“He raised to height’s in which no other character of Mahabharata was capable.”

My ans- Ha..ha…ha..Ha… What heights ???? Karna got thrashed by even tom/dick/harrys like Gandharvas/Drupad etc, apart from getting defeated by Bhima, Arjun, Abhimanyu, Satyaki, Ghatotkach etc…..

Your statement-“Arjun didn’t defeat karna he won drupaudi only because karna was stopped.”

My ans- Ha..ha…ha..Ha… Typical IGNORANT Karna lover….. Bhai Saahab, first read the Original Vyas MB (KMG), instead of watching rubbish MB TV serial….. Its clear that u dont know that after Arjun won Draupadi, all the kings(including Karna) at Swayamwar tried to burn Draupadi alive… and to protect Draupadi, there occurred a war between Arjun/Bhima on one side & all the kings(including Karna) at the other side….. and Arjun DEFEATED Karna in that war…. and when Arjun/Bhima thrashed all the kings(including Karna), then the kings(including Karna) BACKED-OFF from that fight accpeting their defeats……

So BOTTOMLINE: Nobody stopped Karna from winning Draupadi on his OWN MIGHT(in a war with Arjun) but KARNA FAILED…… So stop crying for “Draupadi stopping Karna” EXCUSE…..

You Karna lovers always cry by giving cheap EXCUSES of Karna lossess…. Typical…!!

Your statement-“Drupaudi don’t deserve to have an husband like Karna for humiliating him”

          My ans- Ha..ha…ha..Ha….

  6. So Guys, at the end of all the discussions, we have all agreed to following facts of MB:

    1. Gurudakshina war: Karna RAN AWAY doom dabaa ke from Drupad……!!

    2. Draupadi Swayamwar war: Karna backed off from a fight with Arjun, hence defeated…..

    3. Gandharva war: Karna RAN AWAY doom dabaa ke, leaving Duryo in Danger…… what a coward & cheat friend….!!

    4. Viraat war: Karna RAN AWAY doom dabaa ke 3 times…… And on the 4th time, Karna was made naked by Arjun(after Uttar striped off Karna’s clothes)……. And it was Arjun’s Mercy that Karna lived to see another day…. what a pity….!!

    5. In MB war: Karna got defeated & RAN AWAY doom dabaa ke some 4 to 5 times from Bhima, 2 times from Arjun, 1 time from Abhimanyu, 1 time from Satyaki, 1 time from Ghatotkach…… what a poor warrior….!! Karna’s life was Spared by Bhima, Satyaki etc because of Arjun’s vow…..

    6. And in 17th day final battle, Arjun killed Karna in a fair one-on-one battle…..
    ——————————–

So it is clear that Karna was beaten by even tom/dick/harrys like Gandharvas/Drupad etc, hence this proves that Karna was just an Ordinary warrior & nowhere close to Arjun in warrior status…..

    1. Bhai tumne kaun si Mahabharat padhi h bhagwan jaane.
      1. In gurudakshina war karna didn’t participate because drona said to duryodhan that only my students will give me gurudakshina.

      2. In swayamwar arjun breaks karna bow.

3.Yes in virat war arjun faced bhishma dorna and karna alone without help of Krishna.

      4. In Mahabharat war Arjun was defeated by karna and he was saved by sunset at the end of day.

      5. Ghatotkach never defeated karna. Do you remember that weapon which was given by indra to karna. He can use it once and it can kill anyone. He saved it for killing arjun and very cleverly Krishna suggested to attack at night and unwillingly karna has to use it against ghatotkach when duryodhan ordered him to do so. Krishna knew that karna will use this weapon only against arjun.

      6. When karna used naagastra against arjun. He was saved by Krishna.

7.karan uses his vijaya bow (which was given by his guru god parshuram) only on 17th day of war. And arjun uses it in all wars from the time he received it.

8.Do you remember that 3 curse given to karna.
1st. Once in life he will forget all his mantras when he need it most, fighting with an equal warrior. Given by lord parshuram
2nd. He will be killed when he will be unarmed. Given by a Brahman.
3rd. His chariot wheel will stuck ni ground. Given by Dharti Maa.
Karna’s bad luck that all curses act in same time. And at the same time arjun killed him. how anyone can say its fair.

9.Karna even refuse to use the divine chariot given by his father surya dev. He said that he will defeat arjun only by his archery skills.

      10. One side arjun has lord Krishna to be his charioteer who supports him mentally and tell him what to do how to do. And on 17th day karna has salya to be his charioteer who has jealousy against karna. He always speak against karna.

      11. We all know that karna gave his words to kunti that he will not kill any of her son except arjun. He always leave nakul sahdev yudisthir bheem alive.

      12. Karna knew that he is on wrong side his friend is wrong and if he fights he have to fight against his brothers but due to true loyalty and friendship towards duryodhan he did so. That’s is true friendship.

      13. After the death of Krishna arjun is not able to lift and handle his gandeev bow.

      14. If arjun is greatest than all then why he can’t kill bhisma without the help of sikhandini. He killed jaydratha with the help of krishna. He killed karna when karna is unarmed forget his mantra and trying to take his chariot wheel out from mud.

Karna and arjun both are great warriors. Both are answers for each other. Arjun is always praised because he played a role of hero in war it doesn’t mean that he is greatest warrior. karna is greater than him.

Hello Mr Karna ke pittoo…. It was Arjun’s mercy that he SPARED the life of Karna at Viraat war & only made him “Nanga” by stripping his clothes, otherwise Karna would have been dead at Viraat only……

Your statement-“karna ne usse jivan daan diya tha”

My ans- Ha..ha..ha… Typical fekoo Karna lover….. Miyaan, fekna band kijiye & prove your claim from VYas MB or DONT TALK IN AIR……

Further, Bhima & Satyaki SPARED the life of Karna on 14th day of MB war only because of the Vow of Arjun(to kill Karna), otherwise Bhima or Satyaki would have churned Karna on 14th day only…..

Your statement-“karna was only the unsung hero in Mahabharata and real hero who was praised by god krishna more than arjun.”

My ans- Ha..ha..ha… Miyaan, koi Nayan Mongia ki taarif karein to wo Tendulkar se badaa nahi ban jaata…… A warriors status is proved by his PERFORMANCE & not by his glorifications…. Let me give you some lines from Vyas MB, in which Kripa/Ashwatthama said some honourary words for Karna:

        Drona Parva
        Page 360

“‘While Karna was uttering those words, Kripa,
the mighty armed son of Saradwat, smiling the while, addressed the
Suta’s son in these words, ‘Thy speech is fair, O Karna ! If words alone
could lead to success, then with thee, O son of Radha, as his protector,
this bull among the Kurus would be considered to have the amplest
measure of protection. Thou boastest much, O Karna, in the presence
of the Kuru chief, but thy prowess is seldom witnessed, nor, indeed,
any result (of thy boastful speeches). Many a time have we seen thee
encounter the sons of Pandu in battle. On every one of those occasions,
O Suta’s son, thou hast been vanquished by the Pandavas. While
Dhritarashtra’s son was being taken away ( as a captive ) by the
Gandharvas, all the troops fought on that occasion except thy single self,
who was the first to fly away.

In Virata’s city also, all the Kauravas, united together, including thyself and thy younger brother were vanquished by Partha in battle. Thou art not a match for even
one of the sons of Pandu, viz., Phalguna, on the field of battle. How
then canst thou venture to vanquish all the sons of Pandu with Krishna
at their head ? Thou indulgest in too much brag, O Sutas son ! Engage
thyself in battle without saying anything. To put forth prowess without
indulging in brag is the duty of good men. Ever roaring aloud, O
Suta’s son like the dry clouds of autumn, thou showest thyself, O Karna
to be without substance. The king, however, does not understand it.

*****(Below is the funniest part, as it shows the real caliber of Karna)

Thou roarest, O son of Radha, as long as thou seest not the son of
Pritha. These thy roars disappear when thou seest Partha near.
Indeed, thou roarest as long as thou art out of the range of Phalguna’s
shafts. Those roars of thine disappear when thou art pierced with
        Partha’s shafts.”
        ———————

Aswatthaman also mentioned about the great Karna & said to Karna-

“Possessed with pride and insolence, thou braggest today of thy prowess,
not regarding any of the world’s bowmen in battle ! Where was thy
prowess and where were thy weapons when vanquishing thee in battle
the wielder of Gandiva slew Jayadratha in thy very sight ?”
        ———————

Ab kya bolte ho Mr Karna ke pittoo…?? Ha..ha..ha…

Fact is that Karna was thrashed by Bhima, Arjun, Abhimanyu, Satyaki, Ghatotkach, Gandharvas, Drupad etc etc…. And Karna was not evan a match to tom/dick/harrys like Gandharvas/Drupad etc…..

So bottomline: Karna is an overglorified Faticharr warrior of MB….

This beggar of a warrior was lucky Karna did not fire his ultra powered divyastra at virata yudha itself. otherwise arjuna testicles would have been chopped there and then only.

  7. see first of all understand the situations that were present in front of karna.. talking of virat war karna intentionally lose the fight since he wanted the pandavas agyatvaas to get over so that he could participate in war against arjuna otherwise if he would have used vaishnavaastra then the only option with arjun was pashupatastra which would have disclosed his identity …

secondly in killing of abhimanyu karna was freeing him from all the pain since there was no other way for abhimanyu to survive as karna couldnt go against his friend duryodhana…and abhimanyu was being hammered….

      1. Dear, fans of arjuna here’s some strong points why karna is far better than arjuna…

1.As per the Mahabharata, Karna was the only warrior in that era who conquered the entire world. Karna single-handedly successfully conducted Digvijaya Yatra, conquering all kings in every direction of the world in order to establish Duryodhana as the emperor of the world and to conduct the Vaishnava sacrifice. Karna was equal to 2 Maharatha warriors.

2.As Parshurama only taught to Brahmins, Karna appeared before him as a Brahmin because of the fear of rejection. Parashurama accepted him and trained him to such a point that he declared Karna to be equal to himself in the art of warfare and archery. On a day towards the end of his training, Karna happened to offer Parashurama his lap so his guru could rest his head and take a nap. But while Parashurama was asleep, a bee stung Karna’s thigh. Despite the pain, Karna did not move, so as not to disturb his guru. In some versions, Lord Indra became afraid of the fighting prowess of Karna and he himself took the form of a bee and stung Karna’s thigh in order to benefit his son Arjuna.[8] With blood oozing from his wound, Parashurama woke up at once deduced that Karna was not a Brahmin. Parashurama, who had sworn to teach Brahmins only, laid curse upon Karna that he would forget all the knowledge required to wield the divine weapon Brahmanda astra.
Upon Karna’s pleading, Parshurama relented and modified his curse, saying that Karna would only lose the knowledge when he needed it most when fighting against an equal warrior.[9] To bypass the given curse, Parashurama gave Karna his personal celestial weapon called Bhargavastra which no one else possessed, for being such a diligent student. Repenting over the curse and in order to nullify it, Parashurama gave his personal bow called Vijaya to Karna for being ever victorious in battle and blessed Karna,[9]

“ On earth, no Kshatriya will be thy equal in battle ”
Parashurama also gave his chariot which was made in silver with tiger skins and multiple weapons such as axle, mace and sword in it.

3.Jarasandha, the king of Magadha later challenged Karna to a one-on-one fight. Jarasandha earlier 18 times defeated Lord Krishna and every time Lord Krishna and his brother Balarama ran away from Jarasandha. The defeat by the hands of Jarasandha prompted Lord Krishna to abandon Mathura and built the new capital city Dvaraka for the Yadavas. Karna and Jarasandha fought continuously with different weapons and Karna defeated Jarasandha by trying to tear him apart during a wrestling fight. Jarasandha concedes defeat and Karna spared his life. Jarasandha gifted the city of Malini to Karna as a token of appreciation. Jarasandha accepted and declared Karna as the greatest warrior in world and thus Karna become the king of both Anga and Malini.

        4. Karna was a suitor for Draupadi at her Swayamvara, attempting to win her for Duryodhana. Unlike most other contenders, he was easily able to wield and string the bow, but Draupadi refused to allow him to take part, rejecting him for being a “suta-putra”.The entire kings and the assembled people insulted Karna for his low birth; only Duryodhana supported and argued for Karna, saying Great Sages, Philosophers, and Warriors have no source. They are made great, not born great. Having escaped Varnavat, the Pandavas were also present in the swayamvara, disguised as Brahmins. Following the failure of the other princes, Arjuna stepped into the ring and successfully hit the target, winning Draupadi’s hand. The assembled kings in the Swayamvara argued that a Brahmin was ineligible and they took their weapons and attacked the disguised Arjuna. Arjuna fought with all the assembled kings and defeated them with ease. Karna entered the battle to protect his friend Duryodhana; a terrible battle was fought between Karna and Arjuna, but Arjuna recognized Karna and the two Maharathis fought each other. The battle was so intense that sky was filled with arrows and visibility was lost in the cloud of arrows. With both archers not gaining upper hand, they turned to use celestial weapons. With the battle deadlocked, news came to Karna that his nine-year-old son Sudama (not to be confused with the more well-known Sudama, Krishna’s childhood friend) was dying. Karna praised the skill of the Brahmin and compared it with the skill of Drona or Bhishma. Not being interested in committing Brahmahatya, Karna withdrew from the fight and rushed to his son. It was then revealed that Sudama was hit by an arrow sent by the Brahmin warrior when fighting earlier with the other kings. The bystander Sudama died in the hands of Karna. When Arjuna’s identity was later revealed, Karna’s feelings of hostile rivalry with him further intensified and he swore to kill Arjuna and his family.

5.The Pandava elder brother Yudhisthira always considered Karna as the foremost warrior in the world and worries about this fact in the prelude to the war.[24]

“ Bhishma, Drona, Ashwatthama and the illustrious Kripa, are masters of all celestial weapons and devoted to the practice of virtue. I think they are incapable of being vanquished even by gods led by Vasava himself. There is again amongst them that mighty warrior Karna, impetuous, and ever wrathful, master of all weapons, and invincible, and encased in impenetrable mail.Without first vanquishing in battle all those foremost of men, unaided as thou art, how canst thou slay Duryodhana? O Vrikodara, I cannot sleep thinking of the lightness of hand of that Suta’s son, who, I regard, is the foremost of all wielders of the bow! ”

6.Indra realized that Karna would be invincible in battle and unable to be killed as long as he had his Kavach and Kundal. He approaches Karna as a poor Brahmin during Karna’s sun-worship. Surya warned Karna of Indra’s intentions, but Karna thanked Surya and explained that he was bound by his word and could not send anyone from his door empty-handed. When Indra approached Karna in the form of a Brahmin beggar and asked his Kavach and Kundal as alms, Karna reveals that he knew the Brahmin’s true identity but assured that he would never turn anyone away. Indra became ashamed and took his normal form. Cutting the armor and earrings off his body, Karna handed them to Indra. As he does so, heavens opens up and all the gods and celestial beings in all realms appeared in sky and showered flowers on Karna. They praised that it was the greatest charity the world have ever witnessed. All Gods, Deva’s, sages and celestial beings blessed Karna with glory and fame. They blamed the Lord of Heaven, Indra for such crooked and cunning actions for the benefit of his son Arjuna. Lord Indra justified himself and told, like every father he only wished for the welfare of his child. Celestial beings become very much ashamed of seeing the Lord of Heaven becoming a beggar. In order to escape from such severe shame Lord Indra asked Karna to accept a gift in return. Karna rejected this offer telling that he didn’t give charity expecting anything in return. All Gods, Deva’s, sages and celestial beings requested Karna to accept any gift in return in order to save them from the insult that was caused by Indra upon them. Obeying the celestial beings and as per the request of Lord Indra, Karna, as his father had instructed him, asked for the Vasavi Shakti. Indra granted the boon, with the stipulation that Karna could only use the weapon once. In some versions of the story, Indra gives Karna the name “Karna” for this great act.

7.Following failed peace negotiations with Duryodhana, Krishna is driven back to the Pandavas by Karna. Krishna then revealed to Karna that he is the eldest son of Kunti, and therefore, technically, the eldest Pandava. Krishna implored him to change sides and assures him that Yudhishthira would give the crown of Indraprastha to him; Draupadi who rejected him earlier will become his wife; even Duryodhana will happily see his friend get the crown. Shaken from the discovery, Karna still refuses these offers over Duryodhana’s friendship. Krishna is saddened, but appreciating Karna’s sense of loyalty, accepted his decision, promising Karna that his lineage would remain a secret. In addition, Karna was elated to learn that his true father was none other than Surya.[26]

Krishna went to Kunti and asked her to emotionally blackmail Karna by revealing the truth about his birth. According to Krishna when Karna knows about his real identity it will emotionally weaken him and Kunti can manipulate Karna. Krishna told Kunti that its up to her to make a decision to choose between Karna and her 5 other son. As the war approached, Kunti met Karna and in desperation to keep her children alive asked Karna to join the Pandavas. Kunti revealed the truth about Karna’s birth. Surya Deva also validated the words of Kunti and Karna was emotionally weakened. His hatred against Pandavas become weakened. Karna’s parents also revealed that he was not their son and was adopted.[27][28] But Karna denies the offer of Kunti again. Knowing that Karna will fight against Arjuna with a motive to kill, Kunti extracted couple of promises from Karna that he will not kill any of the Pandavas except Arjuna and against Arjuna he will not use a same celestial weapon twice. This particular request by Kunti as suggested by Lord Krishna led to the death of Karna in the war as he did not use Nagastra and Rudraastra twice against Arjuna. Lord Krishna knew that Lord Parashurama gifted entire celestial weapons to Karna and Arjuna don’t have any counter to many of these weapon. Karna requested his mother to keep their relationship a secret till the end of the war, as pandavas will not fight against their own brother in the Dharma Yuddha if she reveals the truth to them, due to dharma against fighting a brother/father figure. After the end of the war she is supposed to reveal his birth identity to everyone and also promised that at the end of the war she would still have five sons, the fifth one be either Arjuna or Karna himself.

8.Bhishma is appointed as the commander-in-chief of the Kaurava army. But giving the reason that Karna had humiliated Draupadi and disrespected their shared guru, Parashurama, Bhishma refuses to take him in the Kaurava army. Secretly, he knows of Karna’s lineage and doesn’t want Karna to fight his own brothers. At the tale of Rathi’s and Atirathi’s, Bhishma further insults Karna and declares him as just an Ardha Rathi(Half a Rathi) warrior.[37] But in real Karna was equal to 2 Maharatha warrior.[38] Bhishma done this to weaken the energy of Karna when fighting against his brothers, Pandavas. Bhishma also know that if Karna fight from day one then the war will end in 2 days as the Pandavas cannot deal with the overwhelming power of Kaurava Maharathas. Bhishma already gave the blessing of victory to Pandavas so it was his duty to ensure the victory to Pandavas by keeping Karna away from battlefield. Duryodhana wants Karna to fight in the war from the beginning, but Bhishma threatens that he will not fight if Karna is in the army. Duryodhana considers instead installing Karna as the commander, but due to Karna’s low birth, he knows that many kings would threaten not to fight under Karna when people like Bhishma and Dronacharya are present. So Karna decides that he will not fight until the fall of Bhishma. Knowing the Karna’s situation on Kurukshtra war that Karna will not fight till Bhishma was present, Lord Krishna requested Karna to stay with him and Pandavas in Pandavas camp and insists Karna that he may join Kaurava side whenever the Bhishma has slain. But Karna politely dismissed Lord Krishna’s appeal that he has dedicated his life to fight for his friend Duryodhana and will not do anything that is unpleasant to him.[39] Only after Bhishma falls on the eleventh day did Karna enter the war. After the fall of Bhishma, Karna visits him on the bed of arrows and Bhishma reveals his knowledge about Karna’s birth. He then explains his previous attitude, praises Karna’s prowess, relates Karna’s exploits, and gives Karna his blessings.[40] Bhishma told Karna.[40]

“ I know thy prowess in battle, which can with difficulty be borne on earth by foes!.I know also thy regard for Brahmanas.thy courage, and thy great attachment to alms-giving! O thou that resemblest a very god, amongst men there is none like thee! For fear of intestine dissensions I always spoke harsh words about thee. In bowmanship, in aiming weapon,in lightness of hand and in strength of weapons, thou art equal to Phalguni(Arjuna) himself, or the high-souled Krishna! O Karna, proceeding to the city of Kasi, alone with thy bow, thou hadst crushed the kings in battle for procuring a bride for the Kuru king! The mighty and invincible king Jarasandha also, ever boastful of his prowess in battle, could not become thy match in fight! Thou art devoted to Brahmanas; thou always fightest fairly! In energy and strength, thou art equal to a child of the celestials and certainly much superior to men. ”

9.On the morning of 11th day of battle, Surya offered his invincible chariot and his charioteer Aruṇa to Karna, just like Lord Indra who gave his chariot to Arjuna. The chariot of Surya was brilliant as the sun, yoked with 7 horses of different colors [41][42] and only a person with divine vision could look into it. Confident in his own skills, Karna rejects this offer, saying he didn’t want to be remembered as a person who depended upon others strength to gain victory, indirectly referring to Arjuna who depended upon Lord Krishna. Drona took the commander-in-chief position.

        9.Killing Ghatotkacha
Uncharacteristically, the battle on fourteenth day extended into the dark hours. Taking advantage of that was Ghatotkacha, Bhima’s half-Asura son, as asuras gained extraordinary power at night time. Ghatotkacha’s destroyed the Kaurava force and also injured Dronacharya. Seeing the desperate situation, Karna used his Vasava Shakti against Ghatotkacha, killing him. Krishna is pleased with the fact that Karna could no longer use the weapon against Arjuna. Lord Krishna told Satyaki that he had applied his maya or illusion on Karna in order to protect Arjuna from Karna’s celestial weapons, preventing them from engaging in direct combat.[43]

“ I,however always used to stupefy the son of Radha(Karna). It was for this that he did not hurl the dart at Pandu’s son (Arjuna),owning white steeds. As long as I could not baffle that means of Phalguna’s(Arjuna’s) death,I had neither sleep, nor joy in my heart,O Satyaki!.Beholding that dart, therefore, rendered futile through Ghatotkacha,O Satyaki,I regarded Dhananjaya(Arjuna) today to have been rescued from within the jaws of death. It was for this that I had despatched the Rakshasa (Ghatotkacha)unto Karna for battle.None else was capable of withstanding, in the night, Karna in battle. ”
Later Lord Krishna reminded Arjuna about the life and past heroic actions of Karna. Lord Krishna warned Arjuna about the power of Karna that are incapable of being vanquished even for Maha Vishnu with his discus called Sudarshana Chakra.[44]

“ Clad in (natural) coat of mail and decked with his (natural) ear-rings, Karna who had his senses under control could singly vanquish the three worlds with the very gods. Neither Vasava nor Varuna the lord of the waters nor Yama could venture to approach him. Indeed if that bull among men had his armour and ear rings neither thyself bending the Gandiva nor myself uplifting my discus called Sudarsana could vanquish him in battle.”

10.Karna Parva, the eighth book of the Mahābhārata, describes sixteenth and seventeenth days of the Kurukshetra war where, post-Drona’s death, Karna took over as the commander-in-chief. Karna took his Vijaya bow for the first time in battle. As Karna drew the Vijaya bow, a terrible twang was produced because of the immeasurable energy of this bow and it silenced all other loud sounds.[45] Hearing this and anticipating a likely battle to the death between Karna and Arjuna, Krishna warned Arjuna calling Karna to be the foremost of the heroes.[46] Lord Krishna told Arjuna,

“ Hear in brief, O son of Pandu! I regard the mighty Karna as thy equal, or perhaps, thy superior ! In energy he is equal to fire. As regards speed, he is equal to the impetuosity of the wind. In wrath, he resembles the Destroyer himself. Endued with might, he resembles a lion in the formation of his body. He is eight ratnis in stature. His arms are large. His chest is broad. He is invincible. He is sensitive. He is a hero. He is, again, the foremost of heroes. He is exceedingly handsome. Possessed of every accomplishment of a warrior, he is a dispeller of the fears of friends. No one, not even the Gods with Vasava at their head, can slay the son of Radha. No one possessed of flesh and blood, not even the Gods fighting with great care, not all the warriors of the three worlds fighting together can vanquish the son of the chariot-rider. ”
According to Krishna, Karna had all the qualities of the five Padavas – the righteousness of Yudhisthir, strength of Bhima, archery skills of Arjuna, handsomeness of Nakula and wisdom of Sahadeva. A concern for the Kaurava forces is the perceived favour Arjuna has because of the skills of his charioteer, Krishna. To balance this, Duryodhana requests that the talented Shalya, the king of Madra and the Pandavas’ maternal uncle, be Karna’s charioteer. Though disconcerted over serving a warrior of lesser rank as Karna being a charioteers son, Shalya agrees to the task. Prior to the war’s start, when tricked on to the Kauravas’ side, Shalya promised Yudhishthira that he would demoralize and frustrate Karna.

        Sixteenth Day
As promised to Kunti, Karna aimed at killing only Arjuna. On the sixteenth day, he fought with all the Pandava brothers but Arjuna, defeated them all in direct combat and spared each one of them after insulting them with harsh words. After the terrible death of Dussasana, he ordered his charioteer Shalya to move towards Arjuna, Karna deciding to finish him off for once and all. So violent and offensive were Karna’s attacks that Arjuna’s defenses soon crumbled before it. Karna then moved in for the kill. He arms his Nagastra, the same celestial weapon that was used by Indrajit against Rama in Ramayana. Intervening, Shalya tells him to aim at Arjuna’s chest. Frustrated at Shalya’s constant insults, Karna believes that the advice must be bad, and instead aims at Arjuna’s head. Krishna saved Arjuna from certain death by lowering their chariot wheel into the earth; the arrow strikes Arjuna’s helmet instead of his head. Karna and Arjuna then waged a rough war against each other. As promised to Kunti, Karna used a celestial weapon only once against Arjuna. Regaining the upper hand, Karna has a chance to kill Arjuna but spares the latter as the sun was about to set. In some versions, Lord Krishna realized that only miracles can save his ward Arjuna from death and caused the Sun to set prematurely.[47]

Later Lord Krishna made plans to kill Karna by cheating and revealed his plan to Arjuna. Lord Krishna told Arjuna that there will come a time where Karna would be defenseless and unarmed; that was the time for Arjuna to strike.[48] Lord Krishna told Arjuna

“ When his car-wheels will sink in the earth, availing thyself of that opportunity, thou shouldst slay him in that distressful situation. I will make thee a sign beforehand. Warned by it, thou shouldst act. The vanquisher of Vala himself, that foremost of heroes, wielding his thunder, is incapable of slaying the invincible Karna while the latter stands weapon in hand. ”

        11.Seventeenth Day
On the seventeenth day of battle Karna used Bhargavastra against the Pandava army. When Bhargavastra was invoked into existence for the first time in history, there appeared millions and millions of ultra sharp arrows with blazing appearance. The sky was so filled with arrows that it appears like a cloud of arrows and even visibility was lost in the rain of arrows. The earth trembles and these arrows hit and killed hundreds of thousands of men, steeds, elephants and destroyed countless chariots .This astra almost exterminated the Panchala’s and the Chedis. Whoever opposes the weapon become dead and the entire Pandava army ran away from the battlefield fearing this weapon.[49] Even Krishna and Arjuna had to run away from the battle field in order to escape from that weapon. Arjuna told Krishna,

“ Behold, O Krishna of mighty arms, the prowess of the Bhargava weapon! It cannot, by any means, be baffled! Behold the Suta’s son(Karna) also, O Krishna, filled with rage in this great battle and resembling the Destroyer (Siva) himself, in prowess and employed in achieving such a fierce feat! Urging his steeds incessantly, he is repeatedly casting angry glances upon me! ”
Krishna then took Arjuna away from the battlefield in order to escape from Bhargavastra and visited Yudhisthira who were outside the battlefield mortally wounded by Karna’s astra’s. Seeing their plight, Karna repeatedly challenged Krishna and Arjuna to come face him in battle, but Krishna kept Arjuna away from the battlefield. The Bhargavastra destroyed an Akshauhini of Pandava forces and earth appeared like an ocean of dead beings. Yudhisthira insulted Arjuna for running away from Karna.[50]

After the Bhargavastra was withdrawn, the battle resumed. Insulted by Yudhisthira, Arjuna returned to battle field. The two foes, Karna and Arjuna faced each other once more. To witness this great battle between the greatest of all the heroes, heavens opened up. All beings from all the higher realms appeared in the sky. There appeared all the Devas, celestial Rishis, Apsaras, Gandarva and all the beings in the higher realms and they offered flowers to these great warriors. The asuras and beings from all the lower realms also appeared and assembled to witness the battle. Both Pandava and Kauvarava forces stopped their fight and assembled on there respective sides to witness the battle. All the Kauvarva’s and Pandava’s cheered their side and awaited the eagerly for witnessing the battle between Karna and Arjuna. As the battle started, the warriors on the battlefield and the Devas in heaven watched the battle in speechless amazement and terrified admiration of the strength and skill of these greatest of warriors. Karna cut the string of Arjuna’s bow many times. As the battle intensified, Arjuna pushed back Karna’s chariot 10 steps backward every time by the energy of the arrows, but Karna was only able to push Arjuna’s chariot 2 steps backward. Seeing this Lord Krishna praised Karna and admired the skill of Karna. When questioned by Arjuna, Krishna said it is impossible for any human ever to push his chariot backwards because the chariot of Arjuna contains both Hanuman and Krishna, thus holding the entire weight of the universe. Even to shake the chariot is an impossible task and Karna is pushing it 2 feet every time by the energy of his arrows. Krishna said no human ever had or ever will can attain this feat as it is impossible even to shake the chariot containing Maha Vishnu.[51] The epic states that initially, the battle was even between the two foes, but then Karna’s chariot wheel was trapped in the mud as a result of the curse he received earlier from a Brahmin. He still defended himself, but at the crucial moment forgot the incantations to invoke Brahmanda astra, as a result of his guru Parashurama’s curse. Karna got down from his chariot to free the wheel and asked Arjuna to pause, reminding him of the etiquette of war. But Krishna spurred Arjuna to attack Karna from the back and killed him as suggested by Krishna. It was later revealed that Karna could be killed only when all the 3 curses acted together upon him, and this made Krishna employ deceit to kill Karna.

It is said that, Duryodhana never shed a single tear drop for any of his real brothers who were killed in the battlefield, but when his beloved friend Karna was slain, he was inconsolable.

12.One tale relates that as Karna lays dying on the battlefield, his father Surya and Arjuna’s father Indra fall into a debate as to who among their sons is superior. They decide to test Karna’s generosity and appear before him as Brahmins asking for alms. Karna says that at this point he had nothing to give them while one of the Brahmins remarks that he has some gold in his teeth. Realizing this, Karna promptly takes a stone and breaks his teeth, handing them over to the Brahmins, thus proving his superiority.[58]

        Dharma-Devata’s protection
In other versions of the epic, when Arjuna used the Anjalika astra on the weaponless Karna, Krishna found that Karna was still alive even though seriously wounded. Krishna found that Dharma-Devata, the Goddess responsible for protecting Dharma, was guarding Karna from death and resisting every arrows sent by Arjuna. Krishna explained to Arjuna that the Dharma-Devata Herself was protecting Karna from death because of the massive good merit Karna earned by giving charity during his lifetime and it was impossible even for Lord Shiva to kill Karna. Krishna said wherever Dharma is present there is victory and this time Dharma was with the side of Karna. So Krishna went down from his chariot and appeared as a Brahmin and asked for Karna’s punya or merit, to Him as charity. Karna gave his entire merits as charity to the Brahmin in the form of his blood and once Karna gifted his life’s merit to him, Krishna rewarded Karna with the view of Krishna’s Vishwaroopa. Krishna told that only this way it was possible to kill Karna and when Karna gave away his life’s merit to Krishna, Dharma-Devata disappeared. Karna asked Krishna to cremate him in a virgin land where nobody else is present. Then Krishna went back to his chariot and asked Arjuna to take the kill shot on Karna. Later Krishna himself spread the cremations of Karna at Karnaprayag.

        13.Parasurama’s command
In some versions, during the night of 15th day of battle, Karna had a dream in which he envisioned his guru Parashurama and asked him to take back the curse he had placed years back. Parashurama revealed that he had known all along Karna was a Kshatriya, but because he was a worthy student Parashurama had instructed him regardless. The avatar explained to Karna that the Brahmanda astra had to fail him when he needed it most. If he killed Arjuna, Duryodhana would be king instead of Yudhishthira and chaos would ensue. Parashurama asked Karna to accept his curse and asked him to die at the hands of Arjuna, so that the world might live in peace. Karna accepted his guru’s words and in return the grateful guru, Parashurama blessed Karna with immortal glory and everlasting fame.

14.According to a legend from Mahabharata, during the thirteenth year of the exile of the Pandavas, Draupadi saw a ripe jambul (rose apple) hanging from a tree. She plucked it to have it. No sooner had she done this, Lord Krishna came from somewhere and stopped her from eating it. According to Lord Krishna, the ripe fruit was supposed to be the fruit with which a sage was supposed to break his twelve-year fast. Not finding the fruit at its place, Pandavas could earn the wrath of the sage, resulting in more trouble. Pandavas prayed Krishna to relieve them from the crisis.[citation needed]

Lord Krishna said that he see to it that the wrath of sage Amitra does not befall on Pandavas. In order for that to happen, each one of Pandavas must speak only the truth. Saying thus, he took them to the tree. He placed the fruit under the tree and told that each one of them should reveal all secrets about them without hiding anything and without any deceit. Then the fruit will go and cling to the tree on its own accord. Having said this, he invited Yudhishtra to speak first.[citation needed]

Yudhistra said that truthfulness, honesty, tolerance and righteousness should flourish in this world while wickedness, conceit and dishonesty should banish entirely. He held Draupadi responsible for the whole bad events happened to them. At this, surprisingly the fruit moved two feet above the ground and remained in the air. Next, Lord Krishna asked Bhima to speak. Lord Krishna sternly warned Bhima that if he uttered a lie, the fruit would be burnt to ashes. Bhima said that he was never content with food, fight, sleep, and sex, and always craved for more. He would kill every one of Dhritarashtra’s sons. He had great reverence and unflinching loyalty towards Yudhisthira, but would kill anyone who insulted his mace. The fruit moved two feet further up.Arjuna spoke next and said, “Prestige and fame mean more to me than even my life. Unless I kill Karna in the war, the ambition of my life will not be fulfilled and for that I would adopt any method, even if it is against Dharma.” The fruit moved up two feet further. Then Nakula said that virtues, a noble birth, wealth or beauty do not give a person what he desires. He believe that a man can attain fame just by leading a life in this world that is based on his discrimination alone. Again, the fruit moved up two feet. Lord Krishna looked at Sahadeva and Sahadeva said, “Truth is my mother. Intelligence is my father and good deeds are my siblings. The love that I shower on others is my friend. My calm mind is my wife. The attitude of eradicating the thoughts of hatred, enemity and vendetta is my son. I believe these to be my real family.” He also said that he had the knowledge of the past, the present and the future. One would never come to grief if one sought his advice, but he himself would not volunteer to offer any advice or suggestion to anyone. The fruit moved up by two feet again.[citation needed]

At last Draupadi said, “I have five husbands like the five senses, namely, eyes, ears, nose, mouth and body. Though I have five husbands, I am being the cause of agony for all. I feel penitent for having acted thoughtlessly in spite of being well educated. After Draupadi said what she did, the fruit didn’t move up and join the branch. Krishna said that she concealed something. With great trepidation, Draupadi looked into the eyes of her husbands and said “I love five of you. But I love a sixth too. I love Karna . I regret not marrying him on account of his caste. If I had married Karna, then i would never have to experience any of these bitter events in my life”.

“ If I had married him, I would not have been gambled away, publicly humiliated and called a whore. For he has all the qualities possessed by my 5 husbands ”
This was a shock to all the husbands, but none said anything.[65] Draupadi, having confessed this, the fruit went back on the branch of the tree and all was well. The Pandavas got the message that in spite of five brave husbands, they had failed their wife when she needed them the most. When Draupadi was being disrobed after she was lost in the dice-game, none of the husbands could come to her rescue. It brought out the weakness amongst each one of them, and that Draupadi had a soft corner for someone who was more a man than the five of them. This was an insult which they had to bear without any malice towards their wife. Also, being the wife of five made her that much vulnerable to such acts than it did to their own wives, which each had taken for themselves.

        1. dear likhit your point “Regaining the upper hand, Karna has a chance to kill Arjuna but spares the latter as the sun was about to set. In some versions, Lord Krishna realized that only miracles can save his ward Arjuna from death and caused the Sun to set prematurely” this is in B.R. Chopra Mahabharata t.v. serial NOT in Mahabharata written by ved vyasa. Don’t get me wrong I too am a karna fan but this is wrong info and I cant support it.

        2. @ Mr Likith,

Although your Name is Likith, but you dont have any Likith (documented) evidence of most of your claims in your post, as it is mostly rubbish & not supported by Ved Vyas MB…..

Your statement-“1.As per the Mahabharata, Karna was the only warrior in that era who conquered the entire world. Karna single-handedly successfully conducted Digvijaya Yatra, conquering all kings in every direction of the world in order to establish Duryodhana as the emperor of the world and to conduct the Vaishnava sacrifice.”

My ans- Pure LIE…. Karna did not conquer whole India… Prove it from original Ved Vyas MB(KMG) or DONT TALK IN AIR…..

Your statement-“Jarasandha earlier 18 times defeated Lord Krishna and every time Lord Krishna and his brother Balarama ran away from Jarasandha. The defeat by the hands of Jarasandha prompted Lord Krishna to abandon Mathura and built the new capital city Dvaraka for the Yadavas.”

My ans- Now, here you are RIGHT….. Krishna indeed ran away from Mathura because of FEAR of Jarasandh….. Although 18 times is false…. I wonder what Niraj has to say about this fact… Ha..ha…ha..Ha…

Your statement-“With the battle deadlocked, news came to Karna that his nine-year-old son Sudama was dying.”

My ans- Ha..ha…ha..Ha… With every new Karna lover, we hear a NEW EXCUSE of Karna’s defeat…. Ha..ha…ha..Ha… DONT TALK IN AIR….. there is no mention of Karna’s son-Sudama at Draupadi Swayamwar…… Fact is that Karna BACKED-OFF from an active fight with Arjun because he found Arjun too hot to handle, hence Defeat for Karna……

Your statement-“8.Bhishma is appointed as the commander-in-chief of the Kaurava army. But giving the reason that Karna had humiliated Draupadi and disrespected their shared guru, Parashurama, Bhishma refuses to take him in the Kaurava army.”

My ans- Pure LIE…. It was Karna own decision to not to participate in MB war under Bhishma’s commandership because of HIS EGO…..

Your statement-“Regaining the upper hand, Karna has a chance to kill Arjuna but spares the latter as the sun was about to set.”

My ans- Ha..ha…ha..Ha… Miyaan TV serial kum dekha kijiye…. This is an absolute rubbish & baseless claim, not mentioned in original Ved Vyas MB(KMG)…..

Your statement-“Bhargavastra …. Even Krishna and Arjuna had to run away from the battle field in order to escape from that weapon.”

My ans- Prove it from original Ved Vyas MB(KMG) or DONT TALK IN AIR…..

Your statement-“He still defended himself, but at the crucial moment forgot the incantations to invoke Brahmanda astra, as a result of his guru Parashurama’s curse.”

My ans- Read Ved Vyas MB(KMG) carefully which says that Karna indeed used his BRAHMASTRA in the final fight against Arjun….

Your statement-“But Krishna spurred Arjuna to attack Karna from the back and killed him as suggested by Krishna.”

My ans- Prove it from original Ved Vyas MB(KMG) or DONT TALK IN AIR…..

Your statement-“So Krishna went down from his chariot and appeared as a Brahmin and asked for Karna’s punya or merit, to Him as charity. Karna gave his entire merits as charity to the Brahmin in the form of his blood and once Karna gifted his life’s merit to him, Krishna rewarded Karna with the view of Krishna’s Vishwaroopa.”

          My ans- Ha..ha…ha..Ha… Ha..ha…ha..Ha… Ha..ha…ha..Ha… Ha..ha…ha..Ha… Ha..ha…ha..Ha… You karna lovers are Hilarious….. Ha..ha…ha..Ha… Ha..ha…ha..Ha…

Your statement-“Krishna said that she concealed something. With great trepidation, Draupadi looked into the eyes of her husbands and said “I love five of you. But I love a sixth too. But since you brought this point, so let me give you one fact from original Ved Vyas MB(KMG)…. On 17th day, Karna was read to gift his WIFE & SONS to any man who tell him the location of Arjun….!! So now, you know how much respect Karna had for his WIFE & Children…..

And rest of your post is totally RUBBISH & not worth replying…..

      2. I understand ur hatered towrds Karna. But in Virat war, Arjun used sammohanstra which was prohibitated in any war thats why all the maharathi not able to face Arjuna. So actually it was cheating. Also Arjuna was using Gandiv while Karna was using ordinary bow. He uses Vijay Dhanush only in final war with Arjun. So first you read actual Mahabharat thoroughly. If Arjun was so much talented then why he cheat every time to kill Bhishma or Drona (let leave Karna). He win only because he was on right side of Dharma and Lord Krishna was with him. Arjun was not as good (according to you, greatest) as you claim . To make him best, Dronacharya, took thumb of Eklavya as Gurudakshina, refuse to become guru of Karna. If he only teach to Kshastruya then why he teaches to his son because he was a Brahmin.

Ha..ha…ha..Ha… Ha..ha…ha..Ha… Ha..ha…ha..Ha…

Your statement-“Arjuna was using Gandiv while Karna was using ordinary bow.”

My ans- Yeh.. So..????….. who told Karna not to use Vijaya from the beginning ?? What a Cheap EXCUSE again….. And in Draupadi Swayamwar war, Arjun defeated Karna even when he didnt have the Gandiva bow…..

Your statement-“If Arjun was so much talented then why he cheat every time to kill Bhishma or Drona (let leave Karna).”

My ans- Prove your above claim from Original Vyas MB or DONT TALK IN AIR…..

Your statement-“He win only because he was on right side of Dharma and Lord Krishna was with him”

My ans- Ha..ha…ha..Ha… Ha..ha…ha..Ha… Lord Krishna could not save the people of Mathura from Jarasandh & Ran away from Mathura leaving the people of Mathura helpless, & You are giving the credit of Arjun’s(the best) success to Lord Krishna ???? Ha..ha…ha..Ha…

Your statement-“Arjun was not as good (according to you, greatest) as you claim .”

My ans- Bhai Saahab, its not me, but it is the Vyas MB which clearly shows that Arjun was the best….

Your statement-“To make him best, Dronacharya, took thumb of Eklavya as Gurudakshina, refuse to become guru of Karna.”

My ans- As if, if Drona had not taken the thumb of Eklavya, Eklavya would have become the best warrior… Kuch bhi…… Arjun was more talented than Eklavya, because Arjun could use his both hands to fire arrow(hence he was called Savyasachin), but Eklavya became useless after he lost his right thumb…..

And Karna got a better guru-Parshuram than Arjun’s guru-Drona…. Still Karna could not become best like Arjun…

So Mr Saurabh srivastava, you first read the actual Mahabharat thoroughly & then dare to argue with me, instead of TALKING IN AIR……

Bhagdatta a warrior conquered by Karna beats bhima

Then king Bhagadatta, that tiger among men, excited with rage, STRUCK BHIMASENA between his two breasts with a STRAIGHT SHAFT. DEEPLY PIERCED by the king with that shaft, that great bowman and mighty car-warrior, with LIMBS DEPRIVED OF SENSATION in consequence of a SWOON, SAT DOWN on his car, HOLDING his flagstaff. And beholding those mighty car-warriors TERRIFIED and Bhimasena in a SWOON, Bhagadatta of great prowess uttered a LOUD ROAR.”

    Karna vs bhagdatta
Vaisampayana continued, “Then, O bull among the Bharatas, that mighty bowman, Karna, surrounded by a large army, besieged the beautiful city of Drupada. And he, after a hard conflict, brought the hero under subjection, and, O best of monarchs, made Drupada contribute silver and gold and gems, and also pay tribute. And, O foremost of kings, having subdued him, (Karna) brought under subjection those princes that were under him (Drupada) and made them pay tribute. Then going to the north, he subdued the sovereigns (of that quarter) and having effected the defeat of Bhagadatta, Radha’s son ascended that mighty mountain Himavat, all along fighting his foes. And ranging all sides, he conquered and brought under subjection all the kings inhabiting the Himavat, and made them pay dues.

Kunti did a good job for pandava safety andolan like a bhikharan begged for the lives of her sons. Maa ka aanchal safe for bhima yudhi nakul sahadeva.

  9. Statement – Guys, for those who think that Karna was the best warrior, then please see the below ATUAL EVENTS of Karna’s valours:

Answer – Guys, for those who see only one side of the coin deliberately see my answers below on accusation on Karna. I am also quoting ACTUAL EVENTS & FACTS:

Accusation 1. Gurudakshina war: Karna RAN AWAY doom dabaa ke from Drupad……!!

Answer – Karna’s presence in the war itself is questionable. Why would he pay Kuru princes’ Gurudakshina? Fact of the matter is he is mentioned to be defeated in just one sentence which could be a clerical error also. Same Drupad and Panchalas were subjugated by him alone during his digvijay rubbishes his so-called defeat in Gurudakshina war. How can Kauravas with Karna and army face defeat from A LONE Drupad but just four Pandavas without any army defeat Drupad with entire Panchala army….? Can I be wrong if I smell glorification here at the expense of Karna…???

Accusation 2. Draupadi Swayamwar war: Karna backed off from a fight with Arjun, hence defeated…..

Answer – Karna did not back off from Arjun but from Brahmin who did not disclose his true identity. Karna was already cursed by Brahmin Parasurama and another Brahmin so inviting further wrath of some other Brahmin was not advisable. Moreover he backed off only after matching him shot for shot.

Accustaion 3. Gandharva war: Karna RAN AWAY doom dabaa ke, leaving Duryo in Danger…… what a coward & cheat friend….!!

Answer – Karna fought and died fighting from his friend Duryo’s side against his own brothers. Karna did fight Gandhravas and made mockery of them to an extent that Chitrasen had to resort to cheapness of illusions to alienate Karna from the fight. Karna left field only when the mob of Gandhravas destroyed his chariot thanks to the illusion. He did not resort to celestial weapons in the fight at all. On the contrary, Arjun used celestial weapons liberally in fighting friendly Gandhravas who delivered him Indra’s (his father) message as soon as the fight was over…..????

Accusation 4.

Answer – If we exclude all IMPRACTICAL aspects in MB then we are forced to exclude Virat war also because no SINGLE person can fight and survive a war with thousands of bowmen in an open chariot. If we exclude Glorification aspect also then again Virat war has no standing since it appears to be highest of glorification in entire MB. However, if we still accept Virat war as true then Karna was already without his divine Kavach and Vijaya bow. This is established by the fact that Arjun hit him in chest to make him swoon and had broken his bow. Such things happening to celestial weapons and armours do not make any logic or sense. On the other hand Arjun was freshly rejuvenated and better equipped with celestial and divine support after his return from Swarg where he acquired all these supports. Karna alone was not stripped in Virat. If Arjun had the guts he should have stripped him when he was conscious like Jayadratha was made fun of. Karna also spared Arjun’s life when he preferred to take out wheel of his chariot instead of killing unconscious Arjun. Karna had that much dignity which Arjun lacked.

Accusation 5.

Answer – Retreating is part of war proceedings. Even Yudi has been mentioned to retreat despite of having warriors like Bhima, Satyaki, Arjun etc. in his team. Obviously that does not mean Yudi got defeated in Kurukshetra war. Final defeat is either surrender or death. Neither happened to Karna till his unfair killing. It is well documented how Karna made Bhima dance with his bow who had to run behind heaps of dead elephants to save his life. Same accused Karna countered and repelled the multiple attacks of more than 15 warriors including Arjun at a single point in time.

Accustaion 6. And in 17th day final battle, Arjun killed Karna in a fair one-on-one battle…..

Answer – ha…ha….ha….ha…ha…ha…ha….One can only laugh at this non-sense understanding because no one can attack or defend oneself while taking out wheel with both hands. Just prior to his unfair and coward killing by Arjun he made Arjun see stars in broad day light. Karna was gracious enough not to kill unconscious Arjun instead he gave priority to taking out wheel so that a balanced and fair fight could continue….Thanks Krishna who saved Arjun from his Nagastra as well otherwise Arjun would have already been RIP.

    ——————————–
Statement – So it is clear that Karna was beaten by even tom/dick/harrys like Gandharvas/Drupad etc, hence this proves that Karna was just an Ordinary warrior & nowhere close to Arjun in warrior status…..

Answer – So it is clear Karna was beaten by circumstances beyond his control. Digvijay where he conquered India alone and donated his victories to Duryo, Duryo’s marriage to Bhanumati, Defeat of Jarasandh, donating his divine Kavach knowingly, promise to Kunti of sparing four Pandavas’ life, sparing lives of Yudi, Bhima, Nakul and Sahadev etc are testimonials of his great prowess and character which is beyond some intelligent minds. Indra, Krishna and Kunti meeting him in private with special offers and pleas certify that they all knew his potential. Even Bhishma and Parasurama acknowledged him as among the greats….

Statement – Bottomline: Arjun was the best…..

Answer – Bottomline: Arjun became best with all support coming from all quarters BUT Karna became a force to reckon with which was at par with Arjun despite of diminishing support – divine or human, at his end ….!

  13. Who was the best between Arjuna &
    Karna ….
    Undoubtedly ARJUN IS THE BEST.
Even if one leaves out the Mahabharat
war when the Lord Himself was helping
Arjun, then also Karna was defeated by
    Arjun comprehensively in face-to-face
war at least twice — during Draupadi’s
marriage and the Virat war. Without
Krishna as sarathi and Hanuman on
the chariot, and without an army, Arjun
beat Karna and all great warriors
    single-handedly, I repeat SINGLE-
    HANDEDLY,FAIR AND SQUARE. What
about that? Karna himself thought that
Arjuna was equal in archery with
    ‘narayana’ or ‘dhanurbed’ after losing
from him in war at draupadi’s
    sawaimbar. Karna even couldn’t beat
arjun’s 13 year old son abhimanyu or
    arjun’s student satyaki. Karna was
also beaten by Drupad when he
    accompanied Duryodhan to help him
get “gurudakshina” for Drona, but Arjun
could defeat Drupad. Karna could not
save Duryodhan from the clutch of
    Gandharvs, but Arjun did. And
    remember, during all these battles,
Karna had his kavach and kundal in
tact and also he was not affected by
Parsuram’s curse nor did his chariot
fall deep into the earth. How would
you explain all these battles if you say
Karna is better? Moreover, during the
    Mahabharat war, Karna was defeated
at least twice by Arjun before the final
duel– when Arjun went to slay
    Jayadrath breaking into the Kaurava
defence and once more during Drona’s
    tenure. Karna was also beaten
    massively by Abhimanyu and
Ghatatkoch before they were killed. If
Karna was the greatest warrier, he
should not have been defeated so
many times and by so many warriors.
As for Arjun, he vowed not to use very
    destructive divine weapons in the
Mahabharat war despite having all of
them (bcoz he wanted to prove his
archery skills and also Krishna wanted
him not to use them as all the great
warriors were supposd to be accorded
grace before death), which made the
lives of other Kuru warriors easier. And
it partly explains some of the tricks
used by Krishna. But just imagine,
what would have happened had Arjun
used the likes of Pashupat astra? Just
to add, sammohan ban could pierce
through Karna’s kavach at the virat
war and made him unconscious (can
    anyone disagree?). So the popular
    notion that Karna’s kavach is
    protective against all the most
    destructive weapons is fallacious. But
of course, it was effective against
    many divine weapons. About “deceits
and lies” by Pandavas to kill Bhisma,
    Drona and Duryodhan, remember that
    those were pre-destined for their
    salvation. Amba (Srikhandi) got the
boon to be the reason for Bhisma’s
death, Dhristadyumn was born to kill
Drona and Bhim had vowed to break
Duryodhan’s thigh bcoz the latter had
asked Draupadi to sit on his lap after
the game of dice. So these were only
inevitable. As for Karna’s death, why
didn’t he take another chariot after his
chariot moved deep into the earth, as
was the normal practice by all
warriors? It’s bcoz he knew that he
would be killed anyway. No doubt,
Karna was a great warrior, and like all
great warriors he had his moments in
the war, but he was not the greatest
    archer. SYMPATHY FOR A CHARACTER
BECAUSE OF HIS HUMBLE ORIGIN AND
    SUBSEQUENT STRUGGLE MUST BE
    KEPT ASIDE WHILE IMMORTALISING
    SOMEBODY AS THE “GREATEST
    WARRIOR”.

If karn didnt frgive his kavach then w show that how can arjun defeat arjun and arjun kiled karn when karn hv no any astra he is totallyy alone. SO KARN IS THE BEST

I totally agree with Satender, Arjun was the best & Karna was nowhere close to Arjun in warrior status…..

Karna could have easily defeated arjuna if he had not been give curse by parshuram .i know he had two more curses but this one was the main reason of his death because he had world’s most deadly astra called brahmanda astra which 5 times stronger than brahmastra and also brahmashira astra which was 3 times stronger than brahmastra.

  15. hy aniket this is for you,
You really think arjun was superior to karna,

go check your facts once again.

    1. Kunti did save arjun from karan
by asking karna to promise her that he would not shoot any divyaastra twice on arjuna.

Moreover when karna used nagastra and rudraastra against arjun, he wasn’t able to defend himself, it was only due to lord krishna who saved his life by life by sinking the chariot into ground.

And lord krishna did save arjuna by the hiding the sun with his dicus in order to save arjuna from the shafts of Karna,

However Karna would easily kill arjun when he swooned, but he didn’t.

THIS PROVES NOT ONLY KARNA WAS A GREATER WARRIOR BUT ALSO GREAT BY HIS GENEROSITY.

    1. Karna was the best, there is no doubt.

Karna fought with Arjun only 4 times during his life.

      1) At Draupadi’s Swayambar – Both Arjun (Fighting with Shiv-dhanush) & Karna (Fighting with an ordinary bow) were evenly matched but Karna stopped the fight after Aswathama told him about the death of Sudaman (Karna & Brishali’s 1st son and just 4-5 years old). Later Karna found that Sudaman died, because one of Arjun’s arrow pierced his heart. This event shows that Arjun had almost no control over his arrows.

      2) At Matsyadesh (Virat Yudh) – Arjun (Fighting with Gandiv) killed Shone (Karna’s younger brother) during the first hour of fight. Karna (Fighting with an ordinary bow) withdraw from the fight to take away his brother’s body. At that time Arjun used Sammohanastra (Hypnosis Arrow) & everyone of Kuru sena (Except Bhisma) including Karna fell asleep.

      3) 16th Day of Bharat yudh (Kurukhetra War) – During the last hour of the daytime Arjun (Fighting with Gandiv) killed Brishasen (Karna & Brishali’s 2nd son). Karna (Fighting with Vijaya) got furious and attacked Arjun with full strength but they did not fight longer as the sun set.

      4) 17th day of Kurukhetra War – Karna has the upper hand almost all the time. Arjun was so irritated by the fact that a Sutputra is beating him, he used Bramhastra but Karna stopped it by using Bhargabastra. Then Karna’s Chariots left wheel got sunken in mud.

Karna told arjun to follow that path of Dharma & wait until Karna retrieves his wheel. Then Krishna told Karna where was his so called Dharma when he called Panchali a Prostitute, where was his Dharma when 7 Maharathis killed Abhimanyu ?

Then Karna (on foot) was forced to fight with Arjun (on Chariot) – which was against the rules of war. Even then without his chariot he almost killed Arjun. Karna used Rudrastra which weakened the Shiv Kavach (Lord Shiva given it to Arjun) and Arjun fall in his Chariot senseless. Seeing this Karna left his bow Vijaya & fully concentrated on his Chariot. Seeing the opportunity Lord Krishna woke up Arjun and told him that this is the best moment to kill him. Arjun used Anjani Astra it pierced Karna’s Neck.

So, it took Arjun the power Tridev (Gandiv – Brambha, Lord Krishna – Vishnu & Hanuman – Mahesh) & three curse acting at the same time to kill a mare Sutputra – KARNA.

I think it is finally clear that Karna > Arjun.

      Note :
      1) Gandiv – Arjun’s famed bow. Created by Viswakarma for Lord Brambha. Lord Brambha gave it to Indra, Indra Gave it to Agni, Agni gave it to Varun & During “Khandav Dahan” Agni called for Varun to give the bow to Arjun. Gandiv was an extraordinary bow with a power of 1000 Normal bow & said to have 1000 Strings. After getting it Arjun used it everywhere.

      2) Vijaya – Karna’s bow. Created by Lord Shiva for himself. He gave it to Lord Parshuram. Parshuram gave it to Karna & Blessed him “When you have this bow on your hand, no Khatriya will be able to beat you”. Vijaya bow guarantees the win of his wielder. Same or even more powerful than Gandiv. Invincible bow – Not even Pashupatastra can harm it or it’s wielder (Arjun was not a fool, Vijaya is the reason why he did not used Pashupat on Karna. It might have backfired). Karna used this bow only on 16th & 17th day of Kurukhetra war.

U see, Most of the times Karna faced a Tank with a Rivolver.

Note : At Swargarohan parva when Arjun fell, Bhim asked Yudhistir – What is the reason of Arjun’s fall ? Yudhistir answered “Arjun always had the Abhimaan of being the best archer in the world”.

      Abhiman – Shit…..

Dear All ,Karna’s previous Birth was as an asura named “Sahasra – Kavacha(1000 kavachas)” he tormanted all the living being .His 999 kavachas were broken by Nar- Narayan .Fearing death he fled and hid under the shelter of Lord Surya .Later on he was born as Karna with the remaining one kavach , Nar – Narayan was born as Arjuna – Krishna .So eventually Karna has to be killed by Arjuna .More over Karna was defeated By Arjuna twice(battle of Virat and during chakra vyuh ) and also by Bhima and Satyaki.
Karna had to bear all his suffering due to his Karmas in previous Birth

Krishna said(To Arjuna):.I swear by Truth to thee, O friend, that my limbs are burning at the thought that while the son of Subhadra was thus advancing, consuming the hostile army with his shafts, even on that occasion the wicked-souled Karna was engaged in acts of hostility to that hero,Unable, O Partha, to stay in that battle before Abhimanyu’s face, mangled with the shafts of Subhadra’s son, deprived of consciousness, and bathed in blood, Karna drew deep breaths, inflamed with rage. At last, afflicted with arrows, he was obliged to turn his back upon the field.

    http://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/m08/m08073.htm

& Finally karna himself accepting Arjuna’s supeority:

    Narrative:

“‘Karna said(about Arjuna), “As far as I have heard,
    such a superior car-warrior has
never been born on earth! Behold
my prowess, since I will contend in
battle with even that Partha who is
such. This prince of Kuru’s line, this
    foremost of car-warriors, careers in
battle, borne by his steeds white in
hue. Perhaps he will despatch me to
    Yama’s abode today. Know, however,
that with Karna’s death, these all
will be exterminated. The two arms
of this prince are never covered with
sweat. They never tremble. They are
    massive and covered with cicatrices.
Firm in the use of weapons, he is
possessed of great skill and endued
    with great lightness of hands.
Indeed, there is no warrior equal to
the son of Pandu. He taketh a large
number of arrows and shooteth them
as if they were one. Quickly fixing
    them on the bow-string, he
propelleth them to the distance of
two miles. They always fall on the
foe. What warriors is there on earth
that is equal to him? That Atiratha,
    endued with great activity, with
Krishna as his ally, gratified the god
Agni at Khandava. There, on that
    occasion, the high-souled Krishna
    obtained his discus, and Savyasaci,
the son of Pandu, obtained his bow
    Gandiva. There that mighty-armed
one, endued with might that knows
no decay, also obtained his terrible
car unto which are yoked those white
steeds, as also his two great
    celestial and inexhaustible quivers,
    and many celestial weapons, from
the God of Fire. In the region of
    Indra he obtained his conch
    Devadatta and slew innumerable
Daityas, and all the Kalakeyas. Who
is there on earth that is superior to
him? Possessed of greatness of soul,
he gratified Mahadeva himself in fair
fight, and obtained from him the
    terrible and mighty weapon Pasupata
that is capable of destroying the
three worlds. The several Regents of
the world, united together gave him
    their weapons of immeasurable
energy, with which that lion among
    men quickly destroyed in battle
    those united Asuras, the
    Kalakhanjas.

    So also, in Virata’s city,
moving on a single car he
vanquished all of us, and snatched
from us that wealth of kine, and took
from all the foremost of car-warriors
    (portions of) their garments.
    Challenging that foremost of
Kshatriyas, that hero having him of
Vrishni’s race for his ally, that
warrior who is endued with such
energy and such attributes, I regard
myself, O Shalya, to be the foremost
of persons in all the world in point
of courage. He is, again, protected by
that Keshava of great energy, who i
Narayana himself and who is without
    a rival, that high-souled Vasudeva,
    that ever-victorious Vishnu armed
with conch, discus, and mace, whose
    attributes all the world united
    together, cannot (in narrating)
    exhaust in 10,000 years. Beholding
the two Krishnas together on the
same car, fear entereth my heart
together with courage. Partha is the
    foremost of all bowmen!

    OTHER MISCONCEPTIONS:

Misconception No 1-Indra made Karna weaker by requesting karna to offer his kavach kundal as alms(Daan):

About the kavach kundal of karna better get to know that even if shakuni or even blind dhritrashtra had that kavach kundal nobody not even demigods can penetrate his kavach..the fact ofthe matter is that having impenetrable kavach kundal makes karna invincible in battle & battle will become one sided so karna having deprived of his kavach kundal makes the battle equally challenging for both karna & arjuna & not one sided…So having kavacha kundal will definietly make you invincible in battle but wont show your archery talent! So having or not having kavach kundaal does’nt make you great archer & it simply weaken your defence & most important of all it doesn’t show your archery talent!!

Misconception No 2-Kunti saved Arjuna:Moreover I laugh at somebody claim that kunti saved arjuna even though karna only promised to kunti he would spare all 4 pandavas except Arjuna as Karna was determined to kill Arjuna even though knowing Arjuna was his younger uterine brother..On the other gand arjuna gandiva fell from his hand & he cried for fraticide he had done after karna death after kunti desclosed of karna reality as his elder brother to arjuna & after dat Arjuna developed great affection for karna last suviving son named Vrishaketu, & personally arjuna trained him & took utmost care of him.. This is Arjuna!!

Misconception No 3-Brahmin’s curse caused Karna’s defeat:

Now coming at somebody’s claim that brahmin curse for karna..Let me tell you Arjuna didnt gave him that shap so why you blame arjuna..it was his destiny that even Arjuna cant change..in gitaopdesh lord vasudev showed arjuna his vishwaroopam in which karna alongwith all kaurava commanders were engulfed by lord krishna bigg mouth which arjuna saw..everybody knew those on path of adharm are sure to get defeated & stop blaming arjuna for that!

Misconception No 4-Arjuna did Adharm by cheatfully killing Bhishma:

you all are wrong again mate…If you read mahabharata properly Shikhandi in her previous birth as Amba has a boon from lord Shiva that in her next birth as shikhandi, she will be the reason for Bhishma death & Krishna himeslf enginered Bhishma death by arranging Shikandi behind Arjuna after Bhishma himself told the way of his death to pandavas..so u all better stop blaiming Arjuna for that..this was lord shiva boon that was bound to happen.& according to u Arjuna causing Bhishma death was unjust..but dear it was again lord Shiva boon that Shikandi obtained in her previous birth & dats the truth which ur ego cant change! This was bound to happenn..& if you still call this as Adharm then better blame lord shiva & lord krishna both..argue with gods then..u can assume however whatever u want in ur own version of mahabharata written by urself!but in actual mb,sorry mate dis doesnt happen dude.. accept that!

Misconception No 5-Karna forgot Mantra due to Parshuram’s curse:

Now coming to your point dat karna forgot mantra for brahmastra invocation..better read the last part sec 90-91 of Karna Parva. It was CLEARLY mentioned that Karna after initial struggle karna was able to recall mantra for brahmastra which he invoked & directed at arjuna which was quenched by another Brahmastra fired by Arjuna..

Misconception No 6-Arjuna being the greatest archer cant defeat Drona & Drona has to be killed by Adharm:

First of all if you all read Mahabharat properly in Drona Parva you will get to know that Dronacharya has invoked a terrible weapon nullyfying divine system known as “BRAHMADANDA” also called the stick of Brahma..It wasn’t actually a weapon for offensive purpose but its for defence purposes only & it has the divine power of all 7 Saptarishis & it literally nullified all weapons of Pandavas..It has the power to nullify the Brahmastra also as once Brahmastra of Great Sage Vishwamitra was nullified by Brahmadanda only!!At last Lord Krishna adviced Pandavas the way which was indeed not dharmic to kill drona but remember Drona also was the chief responsible for Abhimanyu’s merciless cowardly killing by Adharm even though he was the only eldest & most respected person after Bhishma’s fall..So he has to receive back the fruit of his actions!

MAHADEV SHIV HIMSELF ACCEPTED ARJUNA SUPERIOTY WHEN LORD SHIVA FOUGHT A DUEL WITH ARJUNA IN HUNTER DISGUISE WHEN ARJUNA DID SEVERE PENANCE ON HIS TWO THUMBS OF HIS FOOT TO OBTAIN PASHUPATASTRA FROM LORD SHIVA..ARJUNA WAS CALLED NARA & HE WAS THE MOST IDEAL MAN HIMSELF & LORD KRISHNA HIMSELF ACCEPTED IN GITA PRAISING HIS MORAL CHARACTER!READ WHAT MAHADEV HAS TO SAY ABOUT ARJUNA..IF YOU WANT I CAN POST ENTIRE NARRATIVE!!

& EVEN IF FOR ANY REASON YOU WANT TO ARGUE WITH LORD SHIVA REGARDING ARJUNA PROWESS,THEN YOU ARE MOST WELCOME!!

karna himself praised arjuna that everytime he cut thread of bow arjuna in such a speed rejoin his thread that karna cant notice..this is clearly memtioned in karna parva..for god’s sake read carefully..Moreover Arjuna wasnt responsible for karna shaap so why do u blame arjuna..why dont you people dont notice how abhimanyu single handedly hold at bay 5 kaurava generals simultaneously including karna when he was chariotless!!

Moreover karna himself said to kunti(in ved vyas version) & to shalya ( in some telugu version) dat anybody except Mahadev Shiva would fear to fight arjuna wid krishna as his charioteer!

Arjuna didnt use the irrestible & unfailing “Pashupata Astra” on karna & neither Arjuna used the deadly “Brahmasirha astra” on karna because it will have caused unimmaginable destruction which Arjuna was against..Surely karna would have dispatched to yamaloka if pashupatastra or brahmasirhastra was used on karna!!

Karna also failed to stop Arjuna from killing Jayadratha(The person responsile for Abhimanyu’s killing)

Even Satyaki & Bheem gave sleepless nights to Karna!

Arjuna wasnt even seduced by queen of all Apsaras Urvashi whom even great rishis cant resist..Arjuna has an unmatched control of lust & respect for women which draupadi & krishna themselves praised! But what karna did-Karna encouraged cheer haran of draupadi & called draupadi A PROSTITUTE(VAISHYA)..God Krishna doesnt like anybody without any reason!!

Indeed Karna was the greatest human being that took birth on Earth & this was accpted by Lord Krisna himself & his daanvir nature & absolute loyality & friendship to Duryodhan was widely praised in three worlds & he also has to undergo great miseries & humiliation as “Suta Putra” & was denied his basic rights & motherly love & I am not doubting on his moral character indeed! But as far as arhery was concerned he was definietly a step behind Arjuna as Arjuna himself was NARA(Arjuna & Lord Krishna was called as NARA NARAYANA)..So nobody in three world could beat him..

So please stop unnecessarily criticising Arjuna everytime on public domain & stop giving sympathy votes to Karna!

    Jai Hind..
    satsriyakal..

    1. Perfect.
A minor clarification though; After reading carefully, I think, Karna forgot the use of some other celestial weapon.. maybe Bhargava astra. As you said, he uses Brahmastra even after forgetting the mantras.
Brahmastra doesn’t seem to be very elite in the mahabharata war; Yudhistra also used that against Drona (with due respects to Yudhistra)

Unfortunately a few people brand Mr.Ganguly’s work biased and totally made up. Just reading his text;- how low Yudhistra stooped to, when chastising Arjuna on the 17th day makes us realize how well he has truly translated without bias.

    2. Hey man…i admit that Dharma was always on pandavas. But when it comes into power. Karna was powerfull than Ajuna. Because Arjuna had the support from The supreme god Krishna and Hanuman. But Karna fought without the support of anyone but with his own ability. Eventhough Karna fought without his kavachakundal which no one can destroy, then also Arjuna was difficult to kill Karna. But in number of Divyastras Arjuna will win.

At last, afflicted with arrows, he was obliged to turn his back upon the field.

    Narrative:

“‘Karna said(about Arjuna), “As far as I have heard,
    such a superior car-warrior has
never been born on earth! Behold
my prowess, since I will contend in
battle with even that Partha who is
such. This prince of Kuru’s line, this
    foremost of car-warriors, careers in
battle, borne by his steeds white in
hue. Perhaps he will despatch me to
    Yama’s abode today. Know, however,
that with Karna’s death, these all
will be exterminated. The two arms
of this prince are never covered with
sweat. They never tremble. They are
    massive and covered with cicatrices.
Firm in the use of weapons, he is
possessed of great skill and endued
    with great lightness of hands.
Indeed, there is no warrior equal to
the son of Pandu. He taketh a large
number of arrows and shooteth them
as if they were one. Quickly fixing
    them on the bow-string, he
propelleth them to the distance of
two miles. They always fall on the
foe. What warriors is there on earth
that is equal to him? That Atiratha,
    endued with great activity, with
Krishna as his ally, gratified the god
Agni at Khandava. There, on that
    occasion, the high-souled Krishna
    obtained his discus, and Savyasaci,
the son of Pandu, obtained his bow
    Gandiva. There that mighty-armed
one, endued with might that knows
no decay, also obtained his terrible
car unto which are yoked those white
steeds, as also his two great
    celestial and inexhaustible quivers,
    and many celestial weapons, from
the God of Fire. In the region of
    Indra he obtained his conch
    Devadatta and slew innumerable
Daityas, and all the Kalakeyas. Who
is there on earth that is superior to
him? Possessed of greatness of soul,
he gratified Mahadeva himself in fair
fight, and obtained from him the
    terrible and mighty weapon Pasupata
that is capable of destroying the
three worlds. The several Regents of
the world, united together gave him
    their weapons of immeasurable
energy, with which that lion among
    men quickly destroyed in battle
    those united Asuras, the
    Kalakhanjas.

    So also, in Virata’s city,
moving on a single car he
vanquished all of us, and snatched
from us that wealth of kine, and took
from all the foremost of car-warriors
    (portions of) their garments.
    Challenging that foremost of
Kshatriyas, that hero having him of
Vrishni’s race for his ally, that
warrior who is endued with such
energy and such attributes, I regard
myself, O Shalya, to be the foremost
of persons in all the world in point
of courage. He is, again, protected by
that Keshava of great energy, who i
Narayana himself and who is without
    a rival, that high-souled Vasudeva,
    that ever-victorious Vishnu armed
with conch, discus, and mace, whose
    attributes all the world united
    together, cannot (in narrating)
    exhaust in 10,000 years. Beholding
the two Krishnas together on the
same car, fear entereth my heart
together with courage. Partha is the
    foremost of all bowmen!

      1. Obviously everyone including Mr.Ganguli knows that Karna was Kunti’s son and he was not actually a “suta”.
So, there is no caste factor in here; whether you support Arjuna or Karna, you are only siding with a Kshtriya (and during Yaksha Prashna, Yudhishtra says that caste is not based on birth, but by one’s actions)

sacred text has both sanskrit and english versions of the original mahabharata. And I happen to know a little bit of both. Mr.Ganguli’s work is a master piece and accurate.

  22. Above mentioned story is not cent percent correcr.I think the writer must go through class 12th hindi book of u.p board. There is a chapter in which it is clearly proved that karna was far better fighter than arjuna.According to that chapter when arjuna hitted a bow towards karna, karna chariot took four steps back while when karna did so arjuna chariot took only one step back. But krisha were praising karna.

Seeing this arjuna asked krishna that why are you praising karna.Krishna answered that your bows are stepping back the chariot of a nomal person karna where as bajrang bali himself is there on your chariot, the wheel of your chariot are grabbed by sheshnaag himself and me the lord with the weight of all three loks is sitting your chariot is stepped back by one step by karna.

Bhima dint suck dusshasan’s blood. he took it n applied to draupadi’s hair as it was his vow. during war, karna defeated yudishter twice. when bhima came n fought to karna, karna made him faint n told him, I spare ur life, go n bring arjuna, its him I wish to kill.. and after karna’s wheel got stuck, krishna did insult him and at that time, karna told krishna that since d day karna was chief, he made sure dat d war ws fought wid rules.. to this krishna dint have answer, so he turned to arjun n told him that now by killing karna, he is not breaking any rule as karna has wheel(iron) in his hand, so he is not nishastra n if arjun had to kill him, this was the only moment. this was heard by karna n then he knew why it happened.. he juz smiled at krishna n accepted the deadly arow frm arjun vich pierced his throat.. while karna was dying, suryadev came as an old man n asked karna for daan as he had lost his son in battle.. karna den asked his son, to take a stone n break karna’s teeth as dey wr of gold n he donated dm to suryadev.. later karna signaled krishna to come close n asked a last wish.. his last wish ws krishna to perform krna’s last rites on a kumari bhoomi (where no life has born n vl never be born ever) as he wanted no life to suffer what he suffered. moreover, during duel, arjun’s arrows moved karna’s chariot bt 10yards n karna arrows moved arjuns chariot by 2yards for vich Krishna praised karna. frustrated arjun asked krishna y he is not praising him since hez arrows are more effective.. to vich krishna replied “raja, I am sitting on ur chariot, vich means entire brhmand is sitting here, if I hadnt been here, u wud have gone to an infinite point in universe..

    2. The above narration is itself full of mistakes. Wheh Abhimanyu was killed unjustly, Karn was the party of that coward act. He was not able to counter Abhimanyu singlehandedly, actually he was defeated by Abhimanyu on the battlefield so he supported Drona for all mischeavous acts. If Karn was so powerful why he couldnot defeat in Virat Yudhha ? Actually karn deserved the treatment he was met.

  25. Here I am posting a passage from Udyog Parva that shows how much Dhritarastra was scared of Bhima’s prowess. Although the language is ornamental as usual, but this passage is worth reading.

….”Dhritarashtra said, ‘All these named by thee are, indeed, endued with great courage, but all of them together are equal to Bhima singly. My fear, O child, from the wrathful Bhima is, indeed, very great, like that of fat deer from an enraged tiger. I pass all my nights in sleeplessness, breathing deep and hot sighs afraid of Vrikodara, O child, like an animal of any other species afraid of the lion. Of mighty arms, and in energy equal unto Sakra himself, I see not in this whole army even one that can withstand him in battle. Exceedingly wrathful and determined in animosity, that son of Kunti and Pandu smileth not even in jest, is mad with rage, casteth his glances obliquely, and speaketh in a voice of thunder. Of great impetuosity and great courage, of long arms and great might, he will not, in battle, leave even one of my foolish sons alive. Indeed, Vrikodara, that bull among the Kurus, whirling his mace in battle, will, like a second Yama mace in hand slay all my sons who are afflicted by a heavy calamity. Even now I see that terrible mace of his, with eight sides made of steel, and adorned with gold, uplifted like a Brahmana’s curse. As a lion of mighty strength among a flock of deer, Bhima will range among my troops. He only (amongst his brothers) always displayed his strength cruelly towards my sons. Eating voraciously, and endued with great impetuosity, from his very childhood he hath been behaving inimically towards my children. My heart trembleth (to remember) that even in their childhood, Duryodhana and other sons of mine, while fighting with him (sportively) were always ground down by the elephant-like Bhima. Alas, my sons have always been oppressed by his might, and it is that Bhima of terrible prowess that hath been the cause of this rupture. Even now I behold Bhima, mad with rage, fighting in the very van, and devouring the whole of my host consisting of men, elephants, and steeds. Equal unto Drona and Arjuna in weapons, his speed equal unto the velocity of the wind, and in wrath like unto Maheswara himself, who is there, O Sanjaya, that would slay that wrathful and terrible hero in battle? I think it to be a great gain that my sons were not even then slain by that slayer of enemies who is endued with such energy. How can a human being withstand the impetuosity of that warrior in battle who slew Yakshas and Rakshasas of terrible might before? O Sanjaya, even in his childhood he was never completely under my control. Injured by my wicked sons, how can that son of Pandu come under my control now? Cruel and extremely wrathful, he would break but not bend. Of oblique glances and contracted eye-brows, how can he be induced to remain quiet? Endued with heroism, of incomparable might and fair complexion, tall like a palmyra tree, and in height taller than Arjuna by the span of the thumb, the second son of Pandu surpasseth the very steeds in swiftness, and elephants in strength, speaketh in indistinct accents, and possesseth eyes having the hue of honey.

Even before he went under the tutelage of Lord Parshurama, Karna was better than Arjuna. No weapon in the whole world had the prowess to pierce Karna’s kavach. Pandavas and that jackass Indra had to stoop to the lowest of lows to kill Karna.

  26. I think that there is some interpolation by narrators of latter days in Mahabharata in description of the final encounter between Karna and Arjuna. Both fought excellently that day. But it does not make a sense that instead of trying to kill Arjuna, Karna would have decided to extract the the wheel of his chariot when he with his arrow made Arjuna swoon. Why would Karna waste that opportunity ? He could have extract wheels after killing Arjuna. Why couldn’t he show that mercy in his encounter with Abhimanyu, who was a child for him ? Karna must have fought fiercely at the time of final war. But it seems that this encounter between Arjuna and Karna has been exaggerated in later days just to praise Karna. If Karna was so vigorous why did he lost against Abhimany, Bhima, Satyaki and Arjuna on previous occasions ? Why couldn’t he save Jaydratha Duhshasan and Vrishsena ? Why he waited for the death of his son to exhibit his prowess ?

      “My Way” by Frank Sinatra

And now, the end is near,
And so I face the final curtain.
      My friends, I’ll say it clear;
I’ll state my case of which I’m certain.

      I’ve lived a life that’s full –
I’ve traveled each and every highway.
And more, much more than this,
      I did it my way.

      Regrets? I’ve had a few,
But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption.

I planned each charted course –
Each careful step along the byway,
And more, much more than this,
      I did it my way.

Yes, there were times, I’m sure you knew,
When I bit off more than I could chew,
But through it all, when there was doubt,
I ate it up and spit it out.
I faced it all and I stood tall
      And did it my way.

I’ve loved, I’ve laughed and cried,
I’ve had my fill – my share of losing.
      But now, as tears subside,
I find it all so amusing.

To think I did all that,
And may I say, not in a shy way –
Oh no. Oh no, not me.
      I did it my way.

For what is a man? What has he got?
If not himself – Then he has naught.
To say the things he truly feels
And not the words of one who kneels.
The record shows I took the blows
      And did it my way.

      Yes, it was my way.

    3. As I know, after the murderer of Abhimanyu, Arjuna vow to kill Jayadhrata before sun set next day and if he fail he commit to suicide.
In that day, Duryudhana hide Jayadratha in their save house. That house guide by Karna, Drona (Chief Commander), Duryudhana, etc. So, it’s hardly to Arjuna to kill Jayadhrata. Until afternoon, there is no result.
So, Lord Krishna help him (Again). With his great power, Lord Krishna hide the sun. All the Kaurava armies fell happy n celebrating. They want to see Arjuna keep his vow n suicide. Jayadhrata want to see that moment too. He came out from the save house without his guard (or his guard -include Karna n Drona- was careless because they think the sun start sink in the west and the war is over for that day). And Arjuna kill Jayadhrata.
After Arjuna kill Jayadhrata, the sun shine again. And all Kaurava fell so sad with the dead of Jayadhrata.
So, Arjuna kill Jayadhrata WITH the HELP of Lord Krishna who HIDE the SUN. In my opinion, it don’t prove Arjuna upper-hand Karna n Drona. May I say, it’s a cheat??? (or strategy of war, it depend on your point of view). If Arjuna greatest warrior, he can kill Jayadhrata easily since early morning without any help from other.

He was the accomplice of Duryodhana when he tried to burn down the pandavas (along with Kunti).
[This is so surprising and I don’t want to believe this, that Karna didn’t object to this]

Karna ordered the disrobing of Panchali (and not Duryodhana)
Karna was also the accomplice of Duryodhan when he tries to capture Krishna during the Krishna’s visit to Hastinapur.

And for you that was a great opportunity or in eyes of pandavs and Krishna is was a great opportunity but in eyes of Karna that was not right.

  28. Jai Shri Krishna. I think above extract is from K. M Ganguly. It shows that Arjuna and Karna both came up with brilliant performances. But the observaton I have made in 3 versions ie Ganguly, C .Rajagopalachari and R.C Dutt whom under Shri Rabindranath Tagore worked is that When Karna appealed to Arjuna to allow him to extract his chariot wheel both Krishna and Arjuna made it clear that they will kill him by hook or by crook. Karna immediatly fought back and rendered ARjuna senseless and then continued to struggle with his chariot wheel. Friends see the greatness of Karna. Despite both Arjuna and Krishna making it clear to him that they will attack him even unfairly he respected the rule of fair battle and did NOT attack the unconcious Arjuna and choose to extract his wheel instead. Below I have quoted Gangulys extract which shows that Arjuna too made Karna faint but continued to attack him when he was unconsious. Let mem quote unquote
“Once more Arjuna pierced Karna in the centre of the chest with many straight-coursing and strong shafts made entirely of iron and equipped with wings of gold and each resembling the fiery rod of the Destroyer, like the son of Agni piercing the Krauncha mountains. Then the Suta’s son, casting aside his bow that resembled the very bow of Sakra, as also his quiver, felt great pain, and stood inactive, stupefied, and reeling, his grasp loosened and himself in great anguish. The virtuous Arjuna, observant of the duty of manliness, wished not to slay his enemy while fallen into such distress. The younger brother of Indra then, with great excitement, addressed him, saying, “Why, O son of Pandu, dost thou become so forgetful? They that are truly wise never spare their foes, however weak, even for a moment. The Suta’s son, when able, will once more advance against thee as before. Slay him, therefore, like Indra slaying the Asura Namuci.” Saying, “So be it, O Krishna!” Arjuna, that foremost of all persons in Kuru’s race once more quickly pierced Karna with many excellent arrows. Adhiratha’s son of broad chest looked resplendent like an Asoka or Palasa or Salmali decked with its flowery load or a mountain overgrown with a forest of sandal trees. Karna also shooting repeated showers of arrows, looked, with those arrows Recovering his coolness, and shooting many shafts that resembled angry snakes, Karna then pierced Partha with ten shafts and Krishna with half a dozen, each of which looked like an angry snake. Then Dhananjaya desired to shoot a mighty and terrible arrow At that time, when the hour of Karna’s death had come, Kala, approaching invisibly, and alluding to the Brahmana’s curse, and desirous of informing Karna that his death was near, told him, “The Earth is devouring thy wheel!” Karna became filled with melancholy. He then pierced Krishna in the arm with three terrible arrows, and Partha, too, with seven. Then Arjuna sped seven and ten terrible arrows, perfectly straight and of fierce impetuosity, resembling fire in splendour and like unto Indra’s thunder in force. Endued with awful impetuosity, those arrows pierced Karna and passing out of his body fell upon the surface of the earth. Trembling at the shock, Karna then displayed his activity to the utmost of his power. Steadying himself by a powerful effort he invoked the brahmastra. Beholding the brahmastra, Arjuna invoked the Aindra weapon with proper mantras. The mighty car-warrior Karna baffled all those shafts displayed in his front. The son of Radha baffled with his own weapons those of Savyasaci. Displaying also his own prowess, he seemed to get the better of Dhananjaya at that time. At that time, O king, the earth swallowed up one of wheels of Karna’s car. Quickly alighting then from his vehicle, he seized his sunken wheel with his two arms and endeavoured to lift it up with a great effort. . Seeing his wheel swallowed, the son of Radha shed tears from wrath, and beholding Arjuna, filled with rage he said these words, “O Partha, O Partha, wait for a moment, that is, till I lift this sunken wheel. Brave warriors that are observant of the practices of the righteous, never shoot their weapons at persons with dishevelled hair, or at those that have turned their faces from battle, Thou art the bravest of men in the world. Thou art also of righteous behaviour, O son of Pandu! Thou art well-acquainted with the rules of battle. For these reasons, excuse me for a moment, that is, till I extricate my wheel, ‘Then Vasudeva, stationed on the car, addressed Karna, saying, “By good luck it is, O son of Radha, that thou rememberest virtue! It is generally seen that they that are mean, when they sink into distress, rail at Providence but never at their own misdeeds. Thyself and Suyodhana and Duhshasana and Shakuni, the son of Subala, had caused Draupadi, clad in a single piece of raiment, to be brought into the midst of the assembly. On that occasion, O Karna, this virtue of thine did not manifest itself. Then Vasudeva, addressing Phalguna, that bull among men, said, “O thou of great might, piercing Karna with a celestial weapon, throw him down.” Thus addressed by the holy one, Arjuna became filled with rage. Indeed, remembering the incidents alluded to by Krishna, Dhananjaya blazed up with fury. Then, O king, blazing flames of fire seemed to emanate from all the pores of the angry Partha’s body. The sight seemed to be exceedingly wonderful. Beholding it, Karna, invoking the brahmastra, showered his shafts upon Dhananjaya, and once more made an effort to extricate his car. Partha also, by the aid of the brahmastra, poured arrowy downpours upon Karna. The Suta’s son then, for slaying the son of Pandu, took up a terrible arrow blazing like fire. When that adored shaft was fixed on the bow-string, the earth, O king, trembled with her mountains and waters and forests. Violent winds began to blow, bearing hard pebbles. All the points of the compass became enveloped with dust. Wails of grief, O Bharata, arose among the gods in the welkin. Beholding that shaft aimed by the Suta’s son, O sire, the Pandavas, with cheerless hearts, gave themselves up to great sorrow. That shaft of keen point and endued with the effulgence of Sakra’s thunder, sped from Karna’s arms, fell upon Dhananjaya’s chest and penetrated it like a mighty snake penetrating an ant-hill. That grinder of foes, viz., the high-souled Vibhatsu, thus deeply pierced in that encounter, began to reel. His grasp became loosened, at which his bow Gandiva dropped from his hand. He trembled like the prince of mountains in an earthquake. ( here its clearly evident Arjuna has fainted ) Availing himself of that opportunity, the mighty car-warrior Vrisha, desirous of extricating his car-wheel that had been swallowed up by the earth, jumped down from his vehicle. Seizing the wheel with his two arms he endeavoured to drag it up, but though possessed of great strength, he failed in his efforts, as destiny would have it. Meanwhile the diadem-decked and high-souled Arjuna, recovering his senses, ( here its mentioned Arjuna recovered his sense )took up a shaft, fatal as the rod of Death, and called anjalika. Then Vasudeva, addressing Partha, said, “Cut off with thy arrow the head of this enemy of thine, viz., Vrisha, before he succeeds in getting upon his car.” Applauding those words of the lord Vasudeva, and while the wheel of his enemy was still sunk, the mighty car-warrior Arjuna took up a razor-headed arrow of blazing effulgence and struck the standard (of Karna) bearing the elephant’s rope and bright as the spotless sun. That standard bearing the device of the costly elephant’s rope, was adorned with gold and pearls and gems and diamonds, and forged with care by foremost of artists excelling in knowledge, and possessed of great beauty, and variegated with pure gold. That standard always used to fill thy troops with high courage and the enemy with fear. Its form commanded applause. Celebrated over the whole world, it resembled the sun in splendour. Indeed, its effulgence was like that of fire or the sun or the moon. The diadem-decked Arjuna, with that razor-headed shaft, exceedingly sharp, equipped with wings of gold, possessed of the splendour of fire when fed with libations of clarified butter, and blazing with beauty, cut off that standard of Adhiratha’s son, that great car-warrior. With that standard, as it fell, the fame, pride, hope of victory, and everything dear, as also the hearts of the Kurus, fell, and loud wails of “Oh!” and “Alas!” arose (from the Kuru army). Beholding that standard cut off and thrown down by that hero of Kuru’s race possessed of great lightness of hand, thy troops, O Bharata, were no longer hopeful of Karna’s victory. Hastening then for Karna’s destruction, Partha took out from his quiver an excellent Anjalika weapon that resembled the thunder of Indra or the rod of fire and that was possessed of the effulgence of the thousand-rayed Sun. Capable of penetrating the very vitals, besmeared with blood and flesh, resembling fire or the sun, made of costly materials, destructive of men, steeds, and elephants, of straight course and fierce impetuosity, it measured three cubits and six feet. Endued with the force of the thousand-eyed Indra’s thunder, irresistible as Rakshasas in the night, resembling Pinaka or Narayana’s discus, it was exceedingly terrible and destructive of all living creatures. Partha cheerfully took up that great weapon, in the shape of an arrow, which could not be resisted by the very gods, that high-souled being which was always adored by the son of Pandu, and which was capable of vanquishing the very gods and the Asuras. Beholding that shaft grasped by Partha in that battle, the entire universe shook with its mobile and immobile creatures. Indeed, seeing that weapon raised (for being sped) in that dreadful battle, the Rishis loudly cried out, “Peace be to the universe!” The wielder of Gandiva then fixed on his bow that unrivalled arrow, uniting it with a high and mighty weapon. Drawing his bow Gandiva, he quickly said, “Let this shaft of mine be like a mighty weapon capable of quickly destroying the body and heart of my enemy, if I have ever practised ascetic austerities, gratified my superiors, and listened to the counsels of well-wishers. Let this shaft, worshipped by me and possessed of great sharpness, slay my enemy Karna by that Truth.” Having said these words Dhananjaya let off that terrible shaft for the destruction of Karna, that arrow fierce and efficacious as a rite prescribed in the Atharvan of Angiras, blazing with effulgence, and incapable of being endured by Death himself in battle. And the diadem-decked Partha, desirous of slaying Karna, with great cheerfulness, said, “Let this shaft conduce to my victory. Shot by me, let this arrow possessed of the splendour of fire or the sun take Karna to the presence of Yama.” Saying these words, Arjuna, decked with diadem and garlands, cherishing feelings of hostility towards Karna and desirous of slaying him, cheerfully struck his foe with that foremost of shafts which was possessed of the splendour of the sun or the moon and capable of bestowing victory. Thus sped by that mighty warrior, that shaft endued with the energy of the sun caused all the points of the compass to blaze up with light. With that weapon Arjuna struck off his enemy’s head like Indra striking off the head of Vritra with his thunder. Indeed, O king, with that excellent Anjalika weapon inspired with mantras into a mighty weapon, the son of Indra cut off the head of Vaikartana in the afternoon. Thus cut off with that Anjalika, the trunk of Karna fell down on the earth.”

    1. No doubt that Karna was a brilliant archer. But Karna was defeated by Arjuna at all previous occasions. Even on the day of final encounter, Arjuna killed his son Vrishsena in front of him. Karna could not save him. It enraged Karna and he became furious. He went for an all out war with Arjuna. Arjuna started striking mildly. As he had defeated Karna before, he thought that he can easily kill karna. But enraged with the death of his son Karna was a different Karna today. Both neutralized each others arrows. Karna made Arjuna’s bow to fall from his hand, but Krishna urged Arjuna to hit Karna with high astras. Krishna told him to slay karna using Krishna’s weapon . Arjuna used higher weapons, but he did not use Pashupatyastra or Vaishnavastra on Karna. On the other hand Karna used all the best weapons in his possession – Bhargavastra, Brahmastra and Nagastra. Arjuna neutralized all his weapon except Nagastra. Arjuna could have neutralized this weapon as well with the higher weapons that he had, but he did not do that and Krishna had to press the chariot down to save him. First time in his entire career Arjuna faltered. But as Arjuna was “ajeya”, it was destined that he will never loss. We can not say that Arjuna was inferior to Karna on the basis of the single mistake that he did.

        1. Mr.Thozar, I see that you keep disparaging Kesari Mohan Ganguly. Just curious, which version of mahabharata do you believe in ? Why don’t you post some evidence from there to prove otherwise.
