It is not worth debating with this foolish,nonsense,half made Arjuna’s fans who have only noticed only one side of the coin.It is observed that whenever it seems that they are going to loose the battle, they often says as mentioned in ‘KMG Translation of Mahabharat’ etc,etc -all these stupid things. You stupid guys, this is not the single book on Mahabharata. Why do you Forget that or else you all are pretending to be not known about this basic fact. Indeed there are many translated books of Mahabharata written by some great Indian writers, who infact are better well known than KMG. They are Swami Vivekananda, C.Rajagopalachari, S. Radhakrishnan,Kashi Das(written in Bengali language),’The Mahabharata’ published by Bharatiya Vidyabhawan, ‘The Mahabharata Revised’ by Sahitya Academy, ‘Mahabharata’ by Ramesh Chandra Dutta -these are some translated books on the epic ‘Mahabharata’ in different languages by some great writer.So I want to tell those Arjuna fans that after reading and comparing all these books they should come to a final conclusion. What is the guarantee that KMG’s Mahabharata is 100 percent error free , even the writer KMG himself said once his book is not completely error free. So who these guys are, who says like a fool that Arjuna is the best archer.
Don’t forget Karna left Arjuna alive on 16th day of war due to sunset. Lord Krishna saved Arjuna from Karna’s nagastra. It was Lord Krishna who again saved Arjuna from Bhagadatta’s Vaishnavastra. Don’t forget Babruvahana who even killed Arjuna later resurrected him. In such a case Babruvahana was the best Archer alive after the Mahabharata.
Lord Krishna speaks-
“Hear in brief, O son of Pandu! I regard the mighty car-warrior Karna as thy equal, or perhaps, thy superior! . In energy he is equal to Agni. As regards speed, he is equal to the impetuosity of the wind. In wrath, he resembles the Destroyer himself. Endued with might, he resembles a lion in the formation of his body. He is eight ratnis in stature. His arms are large. His chest is broad. He is invincible. He is sensitive. He is a hero. He is, again, the foremost of heroes. He is exceedingly handsome. Possessed of every accomplishment of a warrior, he is a dispeller of the fears of friends. No one, not even the gods with Vasava at their head, can slay the son of Radha, save thee, as I think. No one possessed of flesh and blood, not even the gods fighting with great care, not all the warriors (of the three worlds) fighting together can vanquish that car-warrior.” Did not know gods could lie 🙂

Art thou the embodiment of the science of weapons, or art thou Rama that best of Brahmanas, or Indra himself, or Indra’s younger brother Vishnu called also Achyuta, who for disguising himself hath assumed the form of a Brahmana and mustering such energy of arms fighteth with me? No other person except the husband himself of Sachi or Kiriti, the son of Pandu, is capable of fighting with me when I am angry on the field of battle.’ Then hearing those words of his, Phalguna replied, saying, ‘O Karna, I am neither the science of arms (personified), nor Rama endued with superhuman powers. I am only a Brahmana who is the foremost of all warriors and all wielders of weapons. By the grace of my preceptor I have become accomplished in the Brahma and the Paurandara weapons. I am here to vanquish thee in battle. Therefore, O hero, wait a little.’

Then Dhananjaya, with eyes red in wrath, aiming at Karna, quickly sped a shaft like the Destroyer urging forward Death’s self. That shaft shot from Gandiva, like Garuda in the welkin in quest of a mighty snake, quickly coursed towards Karna. The son of Drona, however, that mighty car-warrior, with a winged arrow of his, cut it off in mid-air, desirous of rescuing Karna from fear of Dhananjaya. Then Arjuna, excited with wrath, pierced the son of Drona with four and sixty arrows, O king, and addressing him, said, ‘Do not fly away, O Aswathaman, but wait a moment.’ Drona’s son, however, afflicted with the shafts of Dhananjaya, quickly entered a division of the Kaurava army that abounded with infuriated elephants and teemed with cars. The mighty son of Kunti, then, with the twang of Gandiva, drowned the noise made in that battle by all other twangings of bows, of shafts decked with gold. Then, the mighty Dhananjaya followed from behind the son of Drona who had not retreated to a great distance, frightening him all the way with his shafts. Piercing with his shafts, winged with the feathers of Kankas and peacocks, the bodies of men and elephants and steeds, Arjuna began to grind that force. Indeed, O chief of the Bharatas, Partha, the son of Indra, began to exterminate that host teeming with steeds and elephants and men.\'”

Drona’s son, however, with a crescent-shaped arrow, cut off that shaft as it coursed impetuously (towards Karna). Thus cut off by Aswatthaman, that shaft fell down on the earth. Endued with great prowess, the Suta’s son, then, O king, took up another bow, and covered the son of Pandu with several thousands of arrows. Partha, however, like the wind dispersing flight of locusts, dispelled with his own arrows that extraordinary shower of arrows issuing out of Karna’s bow. Then Arjuna, displaying his lightness of hands, covered Karna, in that battle, with his arrows, in the very sight of all thy troops. Karna also, that slayer of hosts, desirous of counteracting Arjuna’s feat, covered Arjuna with several thousands of arrows. Roaring at each other like two bulls, those lions among men, those mighty car-warriors, shrouded the welkin with clouds of straight shafts. Each rendered invisible by the other’s arrowy showers, they continued to strike each other. And they roared at each other and pierced each other with their wordy darts, saying, ‘I am Partha, wait’–or, ‘I am Karna, wait’, O Phalguna! Indeed these two heroes fought with each other wonderfully, displaying great activity and skill. And the sight they presented was such that other warriors became witnesses of that battle. And applauded by Siddhas, Charnas and Pannagas, they fought with each other, O king, each desirous of slaying the other. Then Duryodhana, O king addressing thy warriors, said, ‘Carefully protect the son of Radha! Without slaying Arjuna he would not abstain from battle. Even this is what Vrisha told me.’
Meanwhile, O monarch, beholding the prowess of Karna, Arjuna, of white steeds, with four shafts shot from the bow-string drawn to the ear, despatched the four steeds of Karna to Yama’s domain. And he also felled with a broad-headed arrow, Karna’s charioteer from his niche in the car. And he covered Karna himself with clouds of shafts in the very sight of thy son. Thus shrouded with arrows the steedless and driverless Karna, stupefied by that arrowy shower, knew not what to do. Beholding him made carless, Aswatthaman, O king, caused him to ride on his car, and continued to fight with Arjuna.”

And he, once more, pierced Partha with five arrows, and Vasudeva with twenty. Indeed, there is no warrior equal to
the son of Pandu. He taketh a large
number of arrows and shooteth them
as if they were one. Quickly fixing
them on the bow-string, he
propelleth them to the distance of
two miles. They always fall on the
foe. What warriors is there on earth
that is equal to him? That Atiratha,
endued with great activity, with
Krishna as his ally, gratified the god
Agni at Khandava. There, on that
occasion, the high-souled Krishna
obtained his discus, and Savyasaci,
the son of Pandu, obtained his bow
Gandiva. There that mighty-armed
one, endued with might that knows
no decay, also obtained his terrible
car unto which are yoked those white
steeds, as also his two great
celestial and inexhaustible quivers,
and many celestial weapons, from
the God of Fire. In the region of
Indra he obtained his conch
Devadatta and slew innumerable
Daityas, and all the Kalakeyas. Who
is there on earth that is superior to
him? Possessed of greatness of soul,
he gratified Mahadeva himself in fair
fight, and obtained from him the
terrible and mighty weapon Pasupata
that is capable of destroying the
three worlds. The several Regents of
the world, united together gave him
their weapons of immeasurable
energy, with which that lion among
men quickly destroyed in battle
those united Asuras, the
Kalakhanjas.
So also, in Virata’s city,
moving on a single car he
vanquished all of us, and snatched
from us that wealth of kine, and took
from all the foremost of car-warriors
(portions of) their garments.
Challenging that foremost of
Kshatriyas, that hero having him of
Vrishni’s race for his ally, that
warrior who is endued with such
energy and such attributes, I regard
myself, O Shalya, to be the foremost
of persons in all the world in point
of courage. He is, again, protected by
that Keshava of great energy, who i
Narayana himself and who is without
a rival, that high-souled Vasudeva,
that ever-victorious Vishnu armed
with conch, discus, and mace, whose
attributes all the world united
together, cannot (in narrating)
exhaust in 10,000 years. Beholding
the two Krishnas together on the
same car, fear entereth my heart
together with courage. Partha is the
foremost of all bowmen!

Indeed, hearing the terrible roars of Bhimasena on the field of battle, even all the foremost of Kshatriyas regarded the whole earth and the welkin to be filled with that noise. And at the fierce peals uttered by the high-souled son of Pandu, the bows of all warriors in that battle dropped on the earth. And steeds and elephants, O king, dispirited, ejected urine and excreta. Various frightful omens of evil then made their appearance. The welkin was covered with flights of vultures and Kankas during that terrific encounter between Bhima and Karna. Then Karna struck Bhima with twenty arrows, and quickly pierced the latter’s charioteer also with five. Smiling the while, the mighty and active Bhima then, in that battle, quickly sped at Karna four and sixty arrows. Then Karna, O king, sped four shafts at him. Bhima, by means of his straight shafts, cut them into many fragments, O king, displaying his lightness of hand. Then Karna covered him with dense showers of arrows. Thus covered by Karna, the mighty son of Pandu, however, cut off Karna’s bow at the handle and then pierced Karna with ten straight arrows. The Suta’s son then, that mighty car-warrior of terrible deeds, taking up another bow and stringing it quickly, pierced Bhima in that battle (with many shafts). Then Bhima, excited with rage, struck the Suta’s son with great force on the chest with three straight shafts. With those arrows sticking at his breast, Karna looked beautiful, O bull of Bharata’s race, like a mountain with three tall summits. Then Karna and Arjuna, both foremost of victorious warriors, desirous of vanquishing each other, fought madly on. And such was the lightness of hand they both displayed that (each enveloped by the other’s shower of arrows) they both became invisible (unto the spectators of their encounter). ‘Behold the strength of my arms.’–‘Mark, how I have counteracted that feat,’–those were the words–intelligible to

Then addressing his antagonist, Karna said, ‘O thou foremost of Brahmanas, I am gratified to observe the energy of thy arms that knoweth no relaxation in battle and thy weapons themselves fit for achieving victory. Art thou the embodiment of the science of weapons, or art thou Rama that best of Brahmanas, or Indra himself, or Indra’s younger brother Vishnu called also Achyuta, who for disguising himself hath assumed the form of a Brahmana and mustering such energy of arms fighteth with me? No other person except the husband himself of Sachi or Kiriti, the son of Pandu, is capable of fighting with me when I am angry on the field of battle.’ Then hearing those words of his, Phalguna replied, saying, ‘O Karna, I am neither the science of arms (personified), nor Rama endued with superhuman powers. I am only a Brahmana who is the foremost of all warriors and all wielders of weapons. By the grace of my preceptor I have become accomplished in the Brahma and the Paurandara weapons. KARNA’S UNKEPT PROMISES & KARNA’S FAILURE TO SAVE HIS LOVED ONES FROM BEING SLAINED IN FRONT OF HIS EYES!
1.)Karna was unable to save Dhritrashtra’s 99 sons from being slained by Bhimasena despite promise to Dhritrashtra to protect & save his sons from being killed in battle by Pandavas!
2.)Karna unable to save his son Vrishasena from being slained by Arjuna in front of his eyes!Arjuna challenged Karna & all kauravas to save Karna’s son in order to seek revenge of Abhimanyu’s slaughter by Karna during Arjuna’s absence!
Narrative:
Arjuna with eyes red in wrath, that hero capable of slaying Yama himself if the latter fought with him, then laughed terribly and said unto Karna and all the other Kaurava heroes headed by Duryodhana and Drona’s son, these words, “Today, O Karna, in thy very sight in this battle, I will despatch the fierce Vrishasena unto Yama’s abode with my keen arrows! People say that all of you, united together, slew my son, endued with great activity, in my absence, and while he was alone and unsupported on his car. I, however, will slay thy son in the very sight of you all. Let all the Kaurava car-warriors protect him. I will slay the fierce Vrishasena. After that, I will slay thee, O fool, even I, Arjuna, in the midst of battle! Today I will, in battle, slay thee that art the root of this quarrel and that hast become so proud in consequence of Duryodhana’s patronage. Putting forth my strength, I will certainly slay thee in this battle, and Bhimasena will slay this Duryodhana, this wretch among men, through whose evil policy this quarrel born of dice hath arisen.” Having said these words, Arjuna rubbed the string of his bow and took aim at Vrishasena in that battle, and sped, O king, a number of shafts for the slaughter of Karna’s son. The diadem-decked Arjuna then, fearlessly and with great force, pierced Vrishasena with ten shafts in all his vital limbs. With four fierce razor-headed arrows he cut off Vrishasena’s bow and two arms and head. Struck with Partha’s shafts, the son of Karna, deprived of arms and head, fell down on the earth from his car, like a gigantic shala adorned with flowers falling down from a mountain summit. Beholding his son, thus struck with arrows, fall down from his vehicle, the Suta’s son Karna, endued with great activity and scorched with grief on account of the death of his son, quickly proceeded on his car, inspired with wrath, against the car of the diadem-decked Partha.

“Sanjaya said, ‘Then the younger brother of Karna, uttering loud roars, bow in hand, and repeatedly stretching the bow-string, quickly placed himself between those two illustrious warriors. And Karna’s brother, with ten shafts, pierced invincible Abhimanyu and his umbrella and standard and charioteer and steeds, smiling the while. Beholding Abhimanyu thus afflicted with those arrows, although he had achieved those superhuman feats in the manner of his sire and grandsire, the warriors of thy army were filled with delight. Then Abhimanyu, forcibly bending the bow and smiling the while, with one winged arrow cut off his antagonist’s head. That head, severed from the trunk, fell down on the earth. Beholding his brother slain and overthrown, like a Karnikara tree shaken and thrown down by the wind from the mountain top, Karna, O monarch, was filled with pain. Meanwhile, the son of Subhadra, causing Karna by means of his arrows to turn away from the field, quickly rushed against the other great bowmen. Then Abhimanyu of fierce energy and great fame, filled with wrath, broke that host of diverse forces abounding with elephants and steeds and cars and infantry. As regards Karna, afflicted by Abhimanyu with countless shafts, he fled away from the field borne by swift steeds.

Filled with joy, abuse us once more, saying ‘beast, beast’ (as thou didst before).

Then the (Pancala) prince Yudhamanyu, at the head of his troops, fearlessly pursued the retreating Citrasena and pierced him with seven keen shafts, quickly sped one after another. At this, like a trampled snake of great energy repeatedly darting out its tongue and desirous of vomiting its poison, Citrasena turned back and pierced the Pancala prince with three shafts and his driver with six. The brave Yudhamanyu then struck off his enemy’s head with a shaft equipped with goodly wings and an exceedingly keen point and sped with great care from his bow drawn to its fullest stretch. battle and thy weapons themselves fit for achieving victory. Art thou the
embodiment of the science of weapons, or art thou Rama that best of
Brahmanas, or Indra himself, or Indra’s younger brother Vishnu called also
Achyuta, who for disguising himself hath assumed the form of a Brahmana and
mustering such energy of arms fighteth with me? No other person except the
husband himself of Sachi or Kiriti, the son of Pandu, is capable of fighting
with me when I am angry on the field of battle.’ Then hearing those words of
his, Phalguna replied, saying, ‘O Karna, I am neither the science of arms
(personified), nor Rama endued with superhuman powers. I am only a Brahmana
who is the foremost of all warriors and all wielders of weapons. By the
grace of my preceptor I have become accomplished in the Brahma and the
Paurandara weapons. I am here to vanquish thee in battle. Therefore, O hero,
wait a little.’

and his eyes became filled with tears. And he came to think no warrior
existed on the earth that could be compared with Arjuna. Neither Drona, nor
the son of Radha, nor Aswatthaman, nor Kripa, O sire, is competent to stand
before Arjuna when the latter is excited with wrath, And Suyodhana, said
unto himself, ‘Having vanquished in battle all the mighty car-warriors of my
army, Partha slew the ruler of the Sindhus. None could resist him. This my
vast host hath almost been exterminated by the Pandavas. I think, there is
no one that can protect my army, no, not even Purandara himself. He, relying
upon whom I have been engaged in this passage-at-arms in battle, alas, that
Karna hath been defeated in battle and Jayadratha slain. That Karna relying
upon whose energy I regarded Krishna as straw who came to sue me for peace,
alas, that Karna hath been vanquished in battle.’

he also pierced him, in rage, with another long arrow on the wrist of his
left arm, smiling the while. Karna’s bow then dropped from that arm of his,
which had thus been pierced with great force. Then the mighty Karna, taking
up that bow within the twinkling of an eye, once more covered Phalguna with
clouds of shafts, displaying great lightness of hard. Dhananjaya then, O
Bharata, smiling the while, baffled with his own shafts, that arrowy shower
shot by the Suta’s son. Approaching each other, those two great bowmen,
desirous of counteracting each other’s feats, continued to cover each other
with showers of shafts. The battle that took place between them, viz., Karna
and the son of Pandu, became exceedingly wonderful, like that between the
two wild elephants for the sake of a she-elephant in her season. Then the
mighty bowman Partha, beholding Karna’s prowess, quickly cut of the latter’s
bow at the handle. And he also despatched the four steeds of the Suta’s son
to Yama’s abode with a number of broad-headed shafts. And that scorcher of
foes also cut off from the trunk the head of Karna’s driver. Then, the son
of Pandu and Pritha pierced the bowless, the steedless, and the driverless
Karna with four shafts. Then that bull among men Karna, afflicted with those
shafts, specially jumping down from that steedless car, mounted upon that of
Kripa. Beholding the son of Radha vanquished, thy, warriors, O bull of
Bharata’s race, fled away in all directions.

into the Krauncha mountains. With those arrows shot from Gandiva which
entered Karna’s body like so many snakes, Dhananjaya drove the Suta’s son
from Bhimasena’s vicinity. His bow cut off by Bhima, and himself afflicted
with the arrows of Dhananjaya, Karna quickly fled away from Bhima on his
great car. Bhimasena also, O bull among men, mounting upon Satyaki’s car,
proceeded in that battle in the wake of his brother Savyasachin, the son of
Pandu. Then Dhananjaya, with eyes red in wrath, aiming at Karna, quickly
sped a shaft like the Destroyer urging forward Death’s self. That shaft shot
from Gandiva, like Garuda in the welkin in quest of a mighty snake, quickly
coursed towards Karna. The son of Drona, however, that mighty car-warrior,
with a winged arrow of his, cut it off in mid-air, desirous of rescuing
Karna from fear of Dhananjaya. Then Arjuna, excited with wrath, pierced the
son of Drona with four and sixty arrows, O king, and addressing him, said,
‘Do not fly away, O Aswathaman, but wait a moment.’ Drona’s son, however,
afflicted with the shafts of Dhananjaya, quickly entered a division of the
Kaurava army that abounded with infuriated elephants and teemed with cars.
The mighty son of Kunti, then, with the twang of Gandiva, drowned the noise
made in that battle by all other twangings of bows, of shafts decked with
gold. Then, the mighty Dhananjaya followed from behind the son of Drona who
had not retreated to a great distance, frightening him all the way with his
shafts. Piercing with his shafts, winged with the feathers of Kankas and
peacocks, the bodies of men and elephants and steeds, Arjuna began to grind
that force. Indeed, O chief of the Bharatas, Partha, the son of Indra, began
to exterminate that host teeming with steeds and elephants and men.\'”

in battle, Arjuna brooked it not. Cutting off his bow, that hero, viz.,
Dhananjaya, the son of Pritha, quickly pierced Karna in the centre of the
chest with nine arrows, Then Dhananjaya, with great speed at a time, when
speed was necessary shot in that battle a shaft of solar effulgence for the
destruction of Karna. Drona’s son, however, with a crescent-shaped arrow,
cut off that shaft as it coursed impetuously (towards Karna). Thus cut off
by Aswatthaman, that shaft fell down on the earth. Endued with great
prowess, the Suta’s son, then, O king, took up another bow, and covered the
son of Pandu with several thousands of arrows. Partha, however, like the
wind dispersing flight of locusts, dispelled with his own arrows that
extraordinary shower of arrows issuing out of Karna’s bow. Then Arjuna,
displaying his lightness of hands, covered Karna, in that battle, with his
arrows, in the very sight of all thy troops. Karna also, that slayer of
hosts, desirous of counteracting Arjuna’s feat, covered Arjuna with several
thousands of arrows. Roaring at each other like two bulls, those lions among
men, those mighty car-warriors, shrouded the welkin with clouds of straight
shafts. Each rendered invisible by the other’s arrowy showers, they
continued to strike each other. And they roared at each other and pierced
each other with their wordy darts, saying, ‘I am Partha, wait’–or, ‘I am
Karna, wait’, O Phalguna! Indeed these two heroes fought with each other
wonderfully, displaying great activity and skill. And the sight they
presented was such that other warriors became witnesses of that battle. And
applauded by Siddhas, Charnas and Pannagas, they fought with each other, O
king, each desirous of slaying the other. Then Duryodhana, O king addressing
thy warriors, said, ‘Carefully protect the son of Radha! Without slaying

foe. What warriors is there on earth
that is equal to him? That Atiratha,
endued with great activity, with
Krishna as his ally, gratified the god
Agni at Khandava. There, on that
occasion, the high-souled Krishna
obtained his discus, and Savyasaci,
the son of Pandu, obtained his bow
Gandiva. There that mighty-armed
one, endued with might that knows
no decay, also obtained his terrible
car unto which are yoked those white
steeds, as also his two great
celestial and inexhaustible quivers,
and many celestial weapons, from
the God of Fire. In the region of
Indra he obtained his conch
Devadatta and slew innumerable
Daityas, and all the Kalakeyas. Who
is there on earth that is superior to
him? Possessed of greatness of soul,
he gratified Mahadeva himself in fair
fight, and obtained from him the
terrible and mighty weapon Pasupata
that is capable of destroying the
three worlds. The several Regents of
the world, united together gave him
their weapons of immeasurable
energy, with which that lion among
men quickly destroyed in battle
those united Asuras, the
Kalakhanjas.
So also, in Virata’s city,
moving on a single car he
vanquished all of us, and snatched
from us that wealth of kine, and took
from all the foremost of car-warriors
(portions of) their garments.
Challenging that foremost of
Kshatriyas, that hero having him of
Vrishni’s race for his ally, that
warrior who is endued with such
energy and such attributes, I regard
myself, O Shalya, to be the foremost
of persons in all the world in point
of courage. He is, again, protected by
that Keshava of great energy, who i
Narayana himself and who is without
a rival, that high-souled Vasudeva,
that ever-victorious Vishnu armed
with conch, discus, and mace, whose
attributes all the world united

their palms, the limbs of all the struggling combatants, car-warriors, and
horsemen, began to tremble. Indeed, hearing the terrible roars of Bhimasena
on the field of battle, even all the foremost of Kshatriyas regarded the
whole earth and the welkin to be filled with that noise. And at the fierce
peals uttered by the high-souled son of Pandu, the bows of all warriors in
that battle dropped on the earth. And steeds and elephants, O king,
dispirited, ejected urine and excreta. Various frightful omens of evil then
made their appearance. The welkin was covered with flights of vultures and
Kankas during that terrific encounter between Bhima and Karna. Then Karna
struck Bhima with twenty arrows, and quickly pierced the latter’s charioteer
also with five. Smiling the while, the mighty and active Bhima then, in that
battle, quickly sped at Karna four and sixty arrows. Then Karna, O king,
sped four shafts at him. Bhima, by means of his straight shafts, cut them
into many fragments, O king, displaying his lightness of hand. Then Karna
covered him with dense showers of arrows. Thus covered by Karna, the mighty
son of Pandu, however, cut off Karna’s bow at the handle and then pierced
Karna with ten straight arrows. The Suta’s son then, that mighty car-warrior
of terrible deeds, taking up another bow and stringing it quickly, pierced
Bhima in that battle (with many shafts). Then Bhima, excited with rage,
struck the Suta’s son with great force on the chest with three straight
shafts. With those arrows sticking at his breast, Karna looked beautiful, O
bull of Bharata’s race, like a mountain with three tall summits. Thus
pierced with mighty shafts, blood began to flow from his wounds, like
torrents of liquid red-chalk down the breast of a mountain. Afflicted with
those shafts shot with great force, Karna became agitated a little. Fixing
an arrow then on his bow, he pierced
Bhima, again, O sire! And once more he began to shoot arrows by hundreds and
thousands. Suddenly shrouded with shafts by that firm bowman, viz., Karna,
the son of Pandu, smiling the while, cut off Karna’s bow-string. And then
with a broad-headed arrow, he despatched Karna’s charioteer to the abode of
Yama. And that mighty car-warrior, viz., Bhima, deprived the four steeds
also of Karna of their lives. The mighty car-warrior Karna then speedily
jumping down, O king, from his steedless car, mounted the car of Vrishasena.

victorious warriors, desirous of vanquishing each other, fought madly on.
And such was the lightness of hand they both displayed that (each enveloped
by the other’s shower of arrows) they both became invisible (unto the
spectators of their encounter). ‘Behold the strength of my arms.’–‘Mark,
how I have counteracted that feat,’–those were the words–intelligible to

heroes alone–in which they addressed each other. And incensed at finding
the strength and energy of Arjuna’s arms unequalled on the earth, Karna, the

brother Vishnu called also Achyuta, who for disguising himself hath assumed

No other person except the husband himself of Sachi or Kiriti, the son of
Pandu, is capable of fighting with me when I am angry on the field of
battle.’ Then hearing those words of his, Phalguna replied, saying, ‘O
Karna, I am neither the science of arms (personified), nor Rama endued with
superhuman powers. I am only a Brahmana who is the foremost of all warriors
and all wielders of weapons. By the grace of my preceptor I have become
accomplished in the Brahma and the Paurandara weapons. I am here to vanquish

all the other Kaurava heroes headed by Duryodhana and Drona’s son, these
words, “Today, O Karna, in thy very sight in this battle, I will despatch
the fierce Vrishasena unto Yama’s abode with my keen arrows! People say that
all of you, united together, slew my son, endued with great activity, in my
absence, and while he was alone and unsupported on his car. I, however, will
slay thy son in the very sight of you all. Let all the Kaurava car-warriors
protect him. I will slay the fierce Vrishasena. After that, I will slay
thee, O fool, even I, Arjuna, in the midst of battle! Today I will, in
battle, slay thee that art the root of this quarrel and that hast become so
proud in consequence of Duryodhana’s patronage. Putting forth my strength, I
will certainly slay thee in this battle, and Bhimasena will slay this
Duryodhana, this wretch among men, through whose evil policy this quarrel
born of dice hath arisen.” Having said these words, Arjuna rubbed the string
of his bow and took aim at Vrishasena in that battle, and sped, O king, a
number of shafts for the slaughter of Karna’s son. The diadem-decked Arjuna
then, fearlessly and with great force, pierced Vrishasena with ten shafts in
all his vital limbs. With four fierce razor-headed arrows he cut off
Vrishasena’s bow and two arms and head. Struck with Partha’s shafts, the son
of Karna, deprived of arms and head, fell down on the earth from his car,
like a gigantic shala adorned with flowers falling down from a mountain

grief on account of the death of his son, quickly proceeded on his car,

hue. Perhaps he will despatch me to
Yama’s abode today. Know, however,
that with Karna’s death, these all
will be exterminated. The two arms
of this prince are never covered with
sweat. They never tremble. They are
massive and covered with cicatrices.
Firm in the use of weapons, he is
possessed of great skill and endued
with great lightness of hands.
Indeed, there is no warrior equal to
the son of Pandu. He taketh a large
number of arrows and shooteth them
as if they were one. Quickly fixing
them on the bow-string, he
propelleth them to the distance of
two miles. They always fall on the
foe. What warriors is there on earth
that is equal to him? That Atiratha,
endued with great activity, with
Krishna as his ally, gratified the god
Agni at Khandava. There, on that
occasion, the high-souled Krishna
obtained his discus, and Savyasaci,
the son of Pandu, obtained his bow
Gandiva. There that mighty-armed
one, endued with might that knows
no decay, also obtained his terrible
car unto which are yoked those white
steeds, as also his two great
celestial and inexhaustible quivers,
and many celestial weapons, from
the God of Fire. In the region of
Indra he obtained his conch
Devadatta and slew innumerable
Daityas, and all the Kalakeyas. Who
is there on earth that is superior to
him? Possessed of greatness of soul,
he gratified Mahadeva himself in fair
fight, and obtained from him the
terrible and mighty weapon Pasupata
that is capable of destroying the
three worlds. The several Regents of
the world, united together gave him
their weapons of immeasurable
energy, with which that lion among
men quickly destroyed in battle
those united Asuras, the
Kalakhanjas.
So also, in Virata’s city,
moving on a single car he
vanquished all of us, and snatched
from us that wealth of kine, and took
from all the foremost of car-warriors
(portions of) their garments.
Challenging that foremost of
Kshatriyas, that hero having him of
Vrishni’s race for his ally, that
warrior who is endued with such
energy and such attributes, I regard
myself, O Shalya, to be the foremost
of persons in all the world in point
of courage. He is, again, protected by
that Keshava of great energy, who i
Narayana himself and who is without
a rival, that high-souled Vasudeva,
that ever-victorious Vishnu armed
with conch, discus, and mace, whose
attributes all the world united
together, cannot (in narrating)
exhaust in 10,000 years. Beholding
the two Krishnas together on the
same car, fear entereth my heart

Now coming to your point dat karna forgot mantra for brahmastra invocation better read d last part sec 90-91 of karna parva. It was CLEARLY mentioned dat karna after initial struggle karna was able to recall mantra for brahmastra which he invoked & directed at arjuna which was queched by another brahmastra fired by arjuna..
What new points. I don’t think any of us knew them. I am converted. Hence forth Arjuna is my favorite character. How bravely he disarmed bhurishrava. How bravely he killed bheeshma without any external help. His battle against dacoits after Krishnas death was legendary. How effectively he subdued them. Same is with his performance against karnas bhargavastra soon after which he was praised by Yudhishthira. Ditto for nagastra. Ashwatthamas naryanastra and bhagdattas vaishnava astra. And after the war when his chariot blew up in smithereens all the celestial beings were screaming how superior arjuna was to his contemporaries.

Krishna said(To Arjuna):.I swear by Truth to thee, O friend, that my limbs are burning at the thought that while the son of Subhadra was thus advancing, consuming the hostile army with his shafts, even on that occasion the wicked-souled Karna was engaged in acts of hostility to that hero,Unable, O Partha, to stay in that battle before Abhimanyu’s face, mangled with the shafts of Subhadra’s son, deprived of consciousness, and bathed in blood, Karna drew deep breaths, inflamed with rage. At last, afflicted with arrows, he was obliged to turn his back upon the field.

First of all if you all read Mahabharat properly in Drona Parva you will get to know that Dronacharya has invoked a terrible weapon nullyfying divine system known as “BRAHMADANDA” also called the stick of Brahma..It wasn’t actually a weapon for offensive purpose but its for defence purposes only & it has the divine power of all 7 Saptarishis & it literally nullified all weapons of Pandavas..It has the power to nullify the Brahmastra also as once Brahmastra of Great Sage Vishwamitra was nullified by Brahmadanda only!!At last Lord Krishna adviced Pandavas the way which was indeed not dharmic to kill drona but remember Drona also was the chief responsible for Abhimanyu’s merciless cowardly killing by Adharm even though he was the only eldest & most respected person after Bhishma’s fall..So he has to receive back the fruit of his actions!

Arjuna didnt use the irrestible & unfailing “Pashupata Astra” on karna & neither Arjuna used the deadly “Brahmasirha astra” on karna because it will have caused unimmaginable destruction which Arjuna was against..Surely karna would have dispatched to yamaloka if pashupatastra or brahmasirhastra was used on karna!!

Indeed Karna was the greatest human being that took birth on Earth & this was accpted by Lord Krisna himself & his daanvir nature & absolute loyality & friendship to Duryodhan was widely praised in three worlds & he also has to undergo great miseries & humiliation as “Suta Putra” & was denied his basic rights & motherly love & I am not doubting on his moral character indeed!But as far as arhery was concerned he was definietly a step behind Arjuna as Arjuna himself was NARA(Arjuna & Lord Krishna was called as NARA NARAYANA)..So nobody in three world could beat him..

Karna undoubtedly .. even Sri Krishna admitted .. he said Karna is able to push Arjun’s rath along with Him and Hanuman sitting on Arjun’s chariot. No one in this earth could do this except karna. He also said Arjun do not underestimate Karna he is no less than the Destroyer [mahadev] Himself
Did Karna realy promise to Kunti that he would not kill her sons except Arjuna? I have doubts on this.
We can see in the description of the war that Karna was piercing Bhima with desire to kill him on 14th day. According to Mahabharata, both were trying to slay each other. Again on 17th day we see Karna trying to kill Yudhisthira. Karna left Yudhishthira only because Duryodhana was about to succumb to Bhima’s attack. Karna pierced Yudhishthira with many powerful arrows. There was no guarantee that Karna’s arrows wouldn’t have killed Yudhishthira.
I think that either Karna didn’t promise anything to Kunti or he had to break the promise for the sake of Duryodhana in the war.
There is no doubt that KARNA is the best archer as the contest between arjun and Karna that occured when pandavas and kauravs were showing their ability prove this. Although everytime when mahabharata episode is shown that part is deleted as it will lead to declaration beyond any doubt that karna was much stronger than Arjun. Arjun can’t defeat Bheesma pitama and Dronacharya in archery, how come he can defeat Karna. From that contest only, Bheesma pitama came to know that karna was kunti son.
Duryodhana and his brothers were inferior to pandavas in prowess. Duryodhana was largely dependent on his generals like Bhishma, Drona and Karna. But that was not the case with pandavas. Pandavas were not much dependent on their generals.They themselves were great warriors and generals. They were fighting for a common cause unlike kaurava generals like Drona and Karna. Drona was fighting to settle his scores with panchalas and Karna was fighting to prove himself better than Arjuna.

If Shalya was really(100%) interested in helping Yudhistira, why would he promise that his support would go to those who arranged party for him? He preferred Yudhisthira to Duryodhana and the wine giver to both Yudhistira and Duryodhana.

1. What about kauravasa’s attempt to kill Bhima by ganging up against him in the war from day one ? If kauravas tricks were diplomacy then why should we blame pandavas for cheating in war ? Discouraging Drona by spreading rumor etc were their strategies in that war.

4. Regarding the story of five arrow, I would say that it is not in Mahabharata. Wikipedia is not an authentic source.
After lossing all his relatives Duryodhana’s intention was not to win kingdom but to take revenge from Bhima. But he tried to take an advantage here by putting a condition that his opponent would fight only with mace and he would not change the weapon during war. A warrior was free to use any weapon any time in mahabharata war.
I do not like Duryodhana more than Krishna. I just wanted to say that while judging characters on moral grounds, we must forget their spiritual status. Up to a few months ago, I believed in Krishna as God. But my admiration shifted from Krishna to Karna. Krishna was God in those days and there was something that he could have done to protect Karna. But he behaved as though he was God only for Pandavas. So, I began to question Krishna’s policies.
Regarding your other questions,
1. Duryodhana may be diplomatic or even wrong in treating Shalya but my point is that for Shalya, wine is more important than Yudhistira but for Karna, his very life is inferior to Duryodhana. Just compare the loyalty of Karna and shalya.
2. When Krishna approached Karna, He was a representative of Yudhistira. If Yudhistira sent Krishna as his ambassador, he is responsible for all that Krishna does. Pandavas had no idea that Karna was their brother. Had they, we do not know what they would have done.
3. If Krishna wanted to prevent the war, he should have told Duryodhan that Karna was Pandavas’ brother. May be Duryodhana’s hatred for pandavas would sink. Alternatively, He should have told Pandavas about this. But he didn’t.
Look at the character of kunti. She extracted promise for the life of 4 of her sons. But she didn’t care to ask pandavas to spare the life of at least Karna’s sons who were not instrumental for Duryodhana’s victory.
4. Krishna is stronger than kauravas. I believe that Balarama is in favor of Kauravas. This is evident from Subhadra’s marriage, Sasirekha’s marriage and final mace fight between Duryodhana and Bhima. But Krishna made balarama believe that he killed a brahmin. So, Balarama had to go on a piligrimage. If Krishna says that He fights on behalf of Pandavas, Duryodhana would complain to Balarama who would order Krishna to be out of the war. Krishna didn’t want this. So, he had to help pandavas without offending Duryodhana. Hence, he put his entire army on one side and Himself without weapons on the other. So, He had to ask Indra, hanuman etc.
What else reason do you think for Krishna’s allowing vast army into kauravas’ side and He not taking arms?

If parents arrange marriage for their daughter who is in love with someone else, and when the bridegroom arrives only to find that his so called bride has eloped with someone, wouldn’t it be insulting to both the bridegroom and parents?
Duryodhana may not have helped Karna selflessly, but he was the main reason behind the little respect that Karna got.
Duryodhana fled from battle field on 18th day. When Krishna and Yudhishthira scolded him and challenged him to fight, he accepted their challenge. Yudhishthira gave Duryodhana the option to fight with any pandava with the weapon of his choice. Just there Duryodhana played a trick to take his revenge from Bhima. He put a condition that the warriors would not change the weapon during battle. Duryodhana had been practicing hard with mace for last 13 yeary, he became more skilled in the use of mace than Bhima. So he thought that he has a chance to kill Bhima in mace in mace fight.
Interesting to see that you like Duryodhana more than Krishna. Anyway, here is my answers to your queries:

— Its not cheating it diplomacy. And Duryodhana approached a King not relative of Pandavs.

It is not worth debating with this foolish,nonsense,half made Arjuna’s fans who have only noticed only one side of the coin.It is observed that whenever it seems that they are going to loose the battle, they often says as mentioned in ‘KMG Translation of Mahabharat’ etc,etc -all these stupid things. You stupid guys, this is not the single book on Mahabharata. Why do you Forget that or else you all are pretending to be not known about this basic fact. Indeed there are many translated books of Mahabharata written by some great Indian writers, who infact are better well known than KMG. They are Swami Vivekananda, C.Rajagopalachari, S. Radhakrishnan,Kashi Das(written in Bengali language),’The Mahabharata’ published by Bharatiya Vidyabhawan, ‘The Mahabharata Revised’ by Sahitya Academy, ‘Mahabharata’ by Ramesh Chandra Dutta -these are some translated books on the epic ‘Mahabharata’ in different languages by some great writer.So I want to tell those Arjuna fans that after reading and comparing all these books they should come to a final conclusion. What is the guarantee that KMG’s Mahabharata is 100 percent error free , even the writer KMG himself said once his book is not completely error free. So who these guys are, who says like a fool that Arjuna is the best archer.

Don’t forget Karna left Arjuna alive on 16th day of war due to sunset. Lord Krishna saved Arjuna from Karna’s nagastra. It was Lord Krishna who again saved Arjuna from Bhagadatta’s Vaishnavastra. Don’t forget Babruvahana who even killed Arjuna later resurrected him. In such a case Babruvahana was the best Archer alive after the Mahabharata.

It was CLEARLY mentioned dat karna after initial struggle karna was able to recall mantra for brahmastra which he invoked & directed at arjuna which was queched by another brahmastra fired by arjuna..

What new points. I don’t think any of us knew them. I am converted. Hence forth Arjuna is my favorite character. How bravely he disarmed bhurishrava. How bravely he killed bheeshma without any external help. His battle against dacoits after Krishnas death was legendary. How effectively he subdued them. Same is with his performance against karnas bhargavastra soon after which he was praised by Yudhishthira. Ditto for nagastra. Ashwatthamas naryanastra and bhagdattas vaishnava astra. And after the war when his chariot blew up in smithereens all the celestial beings were screaming how superior arjuna was to his contemporaries.

Misconception No 1-Indra made Karna weaker by requesting karna to offer his kavach kundal as alms(Daan):
About the kavach kundal of karna better get to know that even if shakuni or even blind dhritrashtra had that kavach kundal nobody not even demigods can penetrate his kavach..the fact ofthe matter is that having impenetrable kavach kundal makes karna invincible in battle & battle will become one sided so karna having deprived of his kavach kundal makes the battle equally challenging for both karna & arjuna & not one sided…So having kavacha kundal will definietly make you invincible in battle but wont show your archery talent!So having or not having kavach kundaal does’nt make you great archer & it simply weaken your defence & most important of all it doesn’t show your archery talent!!
Misconception No 2-Kunti saved Arjuna:Moreover I laugh at somebody claim that kunti saved arjuna even though karna only promised to kunti he would spare all 4 pandavas except Arjuna as Karna was determined to kill Arjuna even though knowing Arjuna was his younger uterine brother..On the other gand arjuna gandiva fell from his hand & he cried for fraticide he had done after karna death after kunti desclosed of karna reality as his elder brother to arjuna & after dat Arjuna developed great affection for karna last suviving son named Vrishaketu, & personally arjuna trained him & took utmost care of him.. This is Arjuna!!
Misconception No 3-Brahmin’s curse caused Karna’s defeat:
Now coming at somebody’s claim that brahmin curse for karna..Let me tell you Arjuna didnt gave him that shap so why you blame arjuna..it was his destiny that even Arjuna cant change..in gitaopdesh lord vasudev showed arjuna his vishwaroopam in which karna alongwith all kaurava commanders were engulfed by lord krishna bigg mouth which arjuna saw..everybody knew those on path of adharm are sure to get defeated & stop blaming arjuna for that!
Misconception No 4-Arjuna did Adharm by cheatfully killing Bhishma:
you all are wrong again mate…If you read mahabharata properly Shikhandi in her previous birth as Amba has a boon from lord Shiva that in her next birth as shikhandi,she will be the reason for Bhishma death & Krishna himeslf enginered Bhishma death by arranging Shikandi behind Arjuna after Bhishma himself told the way of his death to pandavas..so u all better stop blaiming Arjuna for that..this was lord shiva boon that was bound to happen.& according to u Arjuna causing Bhishma death was unjust..but dear it was again lord Shiva boon that Shikandi obtained in her previous birth & dats the truth which ur ego cant change!This was bound to happenn..& if you still call this as Adharm then better blame lord shiva & lord krishna both..argue with gods then..u can assume however whatever u want in ur own version of mahabharata written by urself!but in actual mb,sorry mate dis doesnt happen dude.. accept that!
Misconception No 5-Karna forgot Mantra due to Parshuram’s curse:
Now coming to your point dat karna forgot mantra for brahmastra invocation..better read the last part sec 90-91 of Karna Parva. It was CLEARLY mentioned that Karna after initial struggle karna was able to recall mantra for brahmastra which he invoked & directed at arjuna which was quenched by another Brahmastra fired by Arjuna..
Misconception No 6-Arjuna being the greatest archer cant defeat Drona & Drona has to be killed by Adharm:
First of all if you all read Mahabharat properly in Drona Parva you will get to know that Dronacharya has invoked a terrible weapon nullyfying divine system known as “BRAHMADANDA” also called the stick of Brahma..It wasn’t actually a weapon for offensive purpose but its for defence purposes only & it has the divine power of all 7 Saptarishis & it literally nullified all weapons of Pandavas..It has the power to nullify the Brahmastra also as once Brahmastra of Great Sage Vishwamitra was nullified by Brahmadanda only!!At last Lord Krishna adviced Pandavas the way which was indeed not dharmic to kill drona but remember Drona also was the chief responsible for Abhimanyu’s merciless cowardly killing by Adharm even though he was the only eldest & most respected person after Bhishma’s fall..So he has to receive back the fruit of his actions!

Arjuna wasnt even seduced by queen of all Apsaras Urvashi whom even great rishis cant resist..Arjuna has an unmatched control of lust & respect for women which draupadi & krishna themselves praised!But what karna did-Karna encouraged cheer haran of draupadi & called draupadi A PROSTITUTE(VAISHYA)..God Krishna doesnt like anybody without any reason!!
Indeed Karna was the greatest human being that took birth on Earth & this was accpted by Lord Krisna himself & his daanvir nature & absolute loyality & friendship to Duryodhan was widely praised in three worlds & he also has to undergo great miseries & humiliation as “Suta Putra” & was denied his basic rights & motherly love & I am not doubting on his moral character indeed!But as far as arhery was concerned he was definietly a step behind Arjuna as Arjuna himself was NARA(Arjuna & Lord Krishna was called as NARA NARAYANA)..So nobody in three world could beat him..
So please stop unnecessarily criticising Arjuna everytime on public domain & stop giving sympathy votes to Karna!

Karna undoubtedly .. even Sri Krishna admitted .. he said Karna is able to push Arjun’s rath along with Him and Hanuman sitting on Arjun’s chariot. No one in this earth could do this except karna. He also said Arjun do not underestimate Karna he is no less than the Destroyer [mahadev] Himself

Did Karna realy promise to Kunti that he would not kill her sons except Arjuna? I have doubts on this.
We can see in the description of the war that Karna was piercing Bhima with desire to kill him on 14th day. According to Mahabharata, both were trying to slay each other. Again on 17th day we see Karna trying to kill Yudhisthira. Karna left Yudhishthira only because Duryodhana was about to succumb to Bhima’s attack. Karna pierced Yudhishthira with many powerful arrows. There was no guarantee that Karna’s arrows wouldn’t have killed Yudhishthira.
I think that either Karna didn’t promise anything to Kunti or he had to break the promise for the sake of Duryodhana in the war.

There is no doubt that KARNA is the best archer as the contest between arjun and Karna that occured when pandavas and kauravs were showing their ability prove this. Although everytime when mahabharata episode is shown that part is deleted as it will lead to declaration beyond any doubt that karna was much stronger than Arjun. Arjun can’t defeat Bheesma pitama and Dronacharya in archery, how come he can defeat Karna. From that contest only, Bheesma pitama came to know that karna was kunti son.

Duryodhana and his brothers were inferior to pandavas in prowess. Duryodhana was largely dependent on his generals like Bhishma, Drona and Karna. But that was not the case with pandavas. Pandavas were not much dependent on their generals.They themselves were great warriors and generals. They were fighting for a common cause unlike kaurava generals like Drona and Karna. Drona was fighting to settle his scores with panchalas and Karna was fighting to prove himself better than Arjuna.

There were no two mighty Karnas at kurukshetra. Karna is addressed as Karna, Radha’s son, vrisha etc at all the occasions in kurukshetra. So it is clear that Karna of 14th and 15th day was the same Karna, who was fighting on 17th day.
Karna is presented as a great warrior even on the day he lost to Bhima in Mahabharata. Dhritrastra says on 14th day that Bhima and Karna are equal in prowess and anyone can win or lose.

If Shalya was really(100%) interested in helping Yudhistira, why would he promise that his support would go to those who arranged party for him? He preferred Yudhisthira to Duryodhana and the wine giver to both Yudhistira and Duryodhana.
Approaching Karna was Krishna’s own initiative but it was in the interest of Yudhistira.

1. What about kauravasa’s attempt to kill Bhima by ganging up against him in the war from day one ? If kauravas tricks were diplomacy then why should we blame pandavas for cheating in war ? Discouraging Drona by spreading rumor etc were their strategies in that war.

3. Did Yudhisthira approached any king who was Duryodhana’s close friend or relative ?
4. Regarding the story of five arrow, I would say that it is not in Mahabharata. Wikipedia is not an authentic source.

After lossing all his relatives Duryodhana’s intention was not to win kingdom but to take revenge from Bhima. But he tried to take an advantage here by putting a condition that his opponent would fight only with mace and he would not change the weapon during war. A warrior was free to use any weapon any time in mahabharata war.

I do not like Duryodhana more than Krishna. I just wanted to say that while judging characters on moral grounds, we must forget their spiritual status. Up to a few months ago, I believed in Krishna as God. But my admiration shifted from Krishna to Karna. Krishna was God in those days and there was something that he could have done to protect Karna. But he behaved as though he was God only for Pandavas. So, I began to question Krishna’s policies.
Regarding your other questions,
1. Duryodhana may be diplomatic or even wrong in treating Shalya but my point is that for Shalya, wine is more important than Yudhistira but for Karna, his very life is inferior to Duryodhana. Just compare the loyalty of Karna and shalya.
2. When Krishna approached Karna, He was a representative of Yudhistira. If Yudhistira sent Krishna as his ambassador, he is responsible for all that Krishna does. Pandavas had no idea that Karna was their brother. Had they, we do not know what they would have done.
3. If Krishna wanted to prevent the war, he should have told Duryodhan that Karna was Pandavas’ brother. May be Duryodhana’s hatred for pandavas would sink. Alternatively, He should have told Pandavas about this. But he didn’t.
Look at the character of kunti. She extracted promise for the life of 4 of her sons. But she didn’t care to ask pandavas to spare the life of at least Karna’s sons who were not instrumental for Duryodhana’s victory.
4. Krishna is stronger than kauravas. I believe that Balarama is in favor of Kauravas. This is evident from Subhadra’s marriage, Sasirekha’s marriage and final mace fight between Duryodhana and Bhima. But Krishna made balarama believe that he killed a brahmin. So, Balarama had to go on a piligrimage. If Krishna says that He fights on behalf of Pandavas, Duryodhana would complain to Balarama who would order Krishna to be out of the war. Krishna didn’t want this. So, he had to help pandavas without offending Duryodhana. Hence, he put his entire army on one side and Himself without weapons on the other. So, He had to ask Indra, hanuman etc.
What else reason do you think for Krishna’s allowing vast army into kauravas’ side and He not taking arms?

6. Yudhistira asked Shalya to discourage Karna. whether he was right or wrong, it shows that he was afraid of Karna in spite of having Krishna-Arjuna with him.

9. Subhadra and Arjuna loved each other. But Arjuna eloped with Subhadra. Balarama had a plan to give her in marriage to Duryodhana. Krishna should have told in the very beginning. But he knew Balarama was adamant. So, he planned kidnap of Subhadra.
If parents arrange marriage for their daughter who is in love with someone else, and when the bridegroom arrives only to find that his so called bride has eloped with someone, wouldn’t it be insulting to both the bridegroom and parents?
Duryodhana may not have helped Karna selflessly, but he was the main reason behind the little respect that Karna got.

Duryodhana fled from battle field on 18th day. When Krishna and Yudhishthira scolded him and challenged him to fight, he accepted their challenge. Yudhishthira gave Duryodhana the option to fight with any pandava with the weapon of his choice. Just there Duryodhana played a trick to take his revenge from Bhima. He put a condition that the warriors would not change the weapon during battle. Duryodhana had been practicing hard with mace for last 13 yeary, he became more skilled in the use of mace than Bhima. So he thought that he has a chance to kill Bhima in mace in mace fight.
